Dec. 27, 1979 Hinton News-5 In The Library Some recent novels and a thought- provoking non- fiction book. .. Evergreen by Belva Plain is a good, fat novel about people one can like. The main character is Anna, a lovely young Jewish woman who emnigrates from Poland to New York in the early part of the century. Her life is full and fascinating, her joys and sorrows believable and touching. Victoria Holt's new book The Spring of the Tiger is going out andin very fast, to comments like " I can't wait to get it" and It was just lovely". There isn't much hope of one of us getting to review it very soon. The Last Enchantment by Mary Stewart is the third and final volume of the Merlin triology. We did manage to read that one before telling anyone it was here. If you loved The Cry- stal Cave and the hollow hills, you'll want this one soon. In fact, it has started anew demand for the first ttwo, which we now have only in tired paperbacks. I wouldn't have missed any of these for the world. The Joy of the Only Child by Ellen Peck takes a thorough and thought-provoking view of the only child: what it's like to be one, what it's like to have one, and what questions parents should ask themselves when they consider a larger family. It debunks many myths about the only child, using both statistical data and interviews, and repeatedly considers the quality of time spent with children by parents. Interesting reading for those ex- amining the role of parents in today's world. FAIRLEA, WV AND RT. 12, ALDERSON, WV NEW YEAR g FOODLINERS WE WILL CLOSE AT 6:00 P.M. MAN., DEC. 31ST.
