HINTON BOBCATS
CAPTURE CHAMPIONSHIP
The Hinton Bobcats, playing in
the Athens Holiday Tournament at
Concord College, captured the cham-
pionship of the Athens Invitational
Tournament by picking up a pair of
victories over Athens 74 to 71 and
Oakvale 96 to 69.
The Bobcats trailed Athens 51 to
42, in the Friday night game, going
into the final period but exploded in
the 4th quarter outscoring Athens
32 to 20.
Steven Brown had the hot hand
in this quarter scoring 11 of his game
high 24 points. He made two key
shots in the last two minutes and
converted both ends of one and one
foul shot.
Lament Smith added 16 points
and 10 rebounds in the contest, fol-
lowed by Ron Pack with 10; Pat
Stennett, 9; Rusty~Cox ,8;, and Jon-
athan Davis

Hinton defeated Oakvale, Satur-
day, in the championship game of
the tournament in impressive fash-
ion as 12 players got into the scoring
column. Hinton never trailed and
jumping out to a 28 to 15 lead after
one period and never looking back.

with 19 and 10 rebounds followed by

Rounding out the scoring was

Rusty Cox and Lament Smith led
the Bobcats in rebounding with 10
each while Steven Brown had 12
assists in the contest and Pat Sten-
nett had 5 assists.
The Bobcats now have a record of
3 and 1 and have proved to be an
exciting team to watch. Pressure
defense and a fast tempo on offense
that featured an alley - oop slam by
Lament Smith against Oakvale
make the Bobcats an exciting high
school team. The Bobcats will be
back in action at Hinton's Perry
Memorial Gym this Friday, Dec. 28,
hosting AA power Pineville who will
bring a 4 - 0 record into the contest
and feature the states leading scorer
in Brian Woolsey. Game time is 7:30
and there vAll be a J. V. preliminary
beginning at 5:30.
