OBITUARIES MARINDA BOONE BERKLEY Marinda Marie "Rindy" Boone Berkley, age 84, of Alderson, died Wednesday, December 8, 1999, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, following a long illness. Born April 3, 1915 at Judson, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas and Maggie Bragg Boone. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Harvey Berkley, and four brothers: Perry Boone, Sherman Boone, Berman Boone, and Ervin Boone. Mrs. Berkley was a homemaker and a member of the Tempe Baptist Church, Tempa. Survivors include two sons, Ashby Boone and wife Jean of Front Royal, VA.; Robert Berkley and wife Elaine of Alderson; one brother, Raymond Boone and wife Elizabeth of Salem, VA.; 3 grandchildren, Dorothy Fogle and husband Richard of Front Royal, VA.; David Boone of Front Royal, VA.; Harvey Berkley of Alderson; 4 great-grandchildren, Sara Fogle, Zackary Fogle, Benjamin Fogle, and Brittany Boone, all of Front Royal, VA.; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Saturday, December 11th. at 2:00 P.M. at the Tempa Baptist Church, Tempe, with the Rev. Bobby Reed and Kerry Boone officiating. Burial followed in the Tempa Baptist Church Cemetery, Tempa. Pallbearers were: Donald Boone, Orville Boone, Wayne Boone, Ga] Boone, Harvey Berkley, and RoScoe Eggleston. Arrangements by Lobban Funeral ,Home, Alderson. LOUIS J. BURTON Louis J. Burton, 94, of 501 Riverside Drive, Hinton, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, in a Hinton hospital following a lnnF illness. Born April 25, 1905, in Fayette County, he was the son of the late Adrian S. and Pearl Minson Burton. Mr. Burton had lived most of his life in Hinton, was a retired employee of Railway Express Agency and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hinton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Burton, in 1997. Survivors include two sons, Billy Joe Burton and wife, Blossom, of Covington, VA., and Edgar Webb AARON JOSEPH FREELAND Aaron Joseph Freeland, 68, of Nimitz, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 199 in the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Richmond, VA., after a long illness. Born July 6, 1931, at Jumping Branch, he was the son of the late Aaron W. and Dora Hogan Freeland. He was a 1948 graduate of Hinton High School and a graduate of Beckley College. He enlisted in "the Air Force during the Korean War, served as a gunner on a B-29 and was awarded the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Korean Service Medal with two Battle Stars. He wasa member of the Nimitz Baptist Church, life member of the Disabled American Veterans, Paralyzed Veterans of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Post 32, and Hinton Moose Lodge. He was preceded in death by one sister, Catherine Cox. Survivors include one brother, Herbert Freeland and wife, Retha, of Covington, VA.; two sisters, Etta Lilly and husband, Bohmer Hatcher of Hinton; eight nephews, Kevin Sarver and Bob Sarver, whom he reared, Brian Freeland, Dr. Don Lilly, David Lilly, Roger, Randy and Robert Cox; three nieces, Dr. Susan Wright, Lineki Humphries, and Rhonda Cox; six grandnephews and twelve grandnieces. Funeral services were held at 11 alm. Saturday, December 18th. at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel with the ROy. Arnold Cooper and the Rew Don Hannah officiating. Burial followed in the Lilly-Crews Cemetery at Nimitz. Pallbearers were Bob and Donald Lane, Bobby Johnson, Terry Payne, Duane Rudisill, Phillip Harvey, Eugene Stanley and Frank Worell. PLUM:LEY Elizabeth Catherine Plumley, 56, of Clifton Forge, VA., died Friday, Dec, 17, 1999, at her home following a short illness. Born Jan. 27, 1943, in Hinton, she was the daughter of Lilly Martin Gill of Hinton and the late Morgan Gill. Mrs. Plumley was. a nurse assistant for Shenandoah Care Center, Clifton Forge, and a past matron of Silver Loaf Chapter No. 5 of the Order of Eastern Star. She was preced in death by two brothers, Roy Lee and Billy Joe Gill• Other survivors include three sons, John, Joe and Jerry Plumley, all of Hinton; three brothers, Jerry, Mike and Mark Gill, all of Hinten; five sisters, Anna Vandall of Norfolk, VA., Emma Lee Richmond of Hinton, Kay Moss of Schikaschiny, PA., Phyllis Crook of Hinton and Linda Milam of Pence Springs; and six grandchildren. Dec. 21, 1999 Hinton News - 3 Leolslatlve N00tes DONALD F. POPE SR. Donald E Pope Sr., 74, of Jumping Branch, died 1:50 a. m. Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, at his home following a three--- month illness. Born Nov. 13, 1925, at Frewsburg, N.Y., he was the son of the late Floyd and Rose Pope. Mr. Pope had lived most of his life in Sherman, N.Y. He was a World War II-and Korean Conflict veteran, having served 12 years in the Armed Forces in three different branches of service. He also worked more than 20 years at Reed's Farm at Sherman, N.Y. and had been a resident of Jumping Branch for the past 15 years. He attended the Jumping Branch Tabernacle. He was preceded in death by a son, Dan Pope; and a granddaughter, Heather Pope. Now, we can finally relax and celebrate the holiday season Whether we head to the highway for an extended road trip or plan to entertain guests of our own, we must remember that this is the season to celebrate joy, happiness and love. Those of us fortunate enough to have the opportunity to spend time with loved ones, let's be thankful and savor each moment. During this holiday season it is important to look beyond our differences and appreciate people for who they are. For this is the time to celebrate our love for family and friends. I want to take this time to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday season. I believe it is also important to offer a gracious thank you to those who donated time, food, clothing and gifts to those less fortunate. It is important to remember ... 'tis the season for giving.
