Letter to the Editor
Dear Editor:
My parents were Ray and Lucy
Sydenstricker. They were both
teachers in Summers County for
many, many years. I was cleaning
out an old dresser the other day
when 1 found an article someone
had sent to them. I thought it was
worth sharing with your readers:
There once was a pretty good
student,
who sat in a pretty good class, and
was taught by a pretty good
teacher
who always let "pretty good" pass.
He wasn't a whiz bang at Math
but
for him education was leading
straight down a pretty good path.
He didn't find school too exciting
but he wanted to do pretty well,
He did have some trouble with
writing,
Five plus five needn't always add
up to be ten,
A pretty good answer was nine.
The pretty good class that he sat
in
was part of a pretty good school.
And the student was not an
exception,
On the contrary, he was the rule.
The pretty good school that he
went to
was there in a pretty good town,
But no one there seemed to notice
He could not tell a verb from a
noun.
The pretty good student in fact
was,
part era pretty good MOB
And the first time he knew what
he lacked was
when he looked for a pretty good
JOB.
It was then, when he sought a

Regarding List
Dear Editor!
I am writing in regard to the
Who's Who list that came out in this
weeks paper. Last year and this
year my daughters name was
suspicion
pretty good might not be good
enough.
The pretty good town in our story
was part of a pretty good state
which had pretty good aspirations
and prayed for a pretty good fate.
There once was a pretty good
nation
Pretty proud of the greatness it
had
which learned much too late
omitted. Shehas been in Who's Who If yOu want to be great
for the past two years and her name Pretty good, is in fact, pretty bad.

Our daughter is Carol N. Gregory
Mender. She is a senior at Summers which was voted down by Summers
County High School. She is
graduating early along with several
others. We are very proud of her
despite what she has been through
the past year. Her father got very
ill in February and we lost him in
August. I know it hasn't been easy
fin' her to maintain her grades plus
having a young son and husband. I
went tbrough the same thing in my
senior year. I just want her to know
that her fi:mily is very proud of her
and hives her very lniich.

County voters. I know we now have
a pretty good school system.
However, keep in mind that our
future is our children. They are our
future nurses, doctors, legislators
and community leaders. Their
education should be a top priority for
all citizens.
Thank you.

ORDER IN THE COURT, HERE
COMES THE JUDGE:
Several railroad men in the past
have several local citizens as Mayor
of the City of Hinton, W. VA. None
had a more successful term of office
than did Captain "Jim" Smith who
was a Chesapeake and Ohio Railway
conductor. Mr. Smith was a tall,
muscular, broad shouldered man
who could hold his own in any
situation.
The Hinton Daily News of May 5,
1902 reported the following:
"In the Mayor's Court, Honorable
"Jim" disposed of five cases in short
order.
"Peter Spangler for 'being in a
condition he could not tell black from
white' was assessed $3.00 to help
pay the expense ofrunningthe town.
"Chap Wiley, also a 'booze artist'
was taxed $3.00. He paid the sum
but was not released as United
States Deputy Marshal
Cunningham put in a bid for him,
claiming that he was wanted in
Raleigh County for 'moomshininL
"Thelast case was the trial of one
Frank Meadows, a colored youth, on
a complaint made byA. J. Holden of
Charleston, W. VA., who said that
while he was waiting for passenger
train No. 3 Sunday that the bey

asked him what time of the day it
was, and as he pulled out his watch,
the boy grabbed it, and that in the
scuffle that ensued the watch chain
was broken, he recovered his watch,
the colored boy lost his hat and then
took off on an east-bound freight.
Word was sent to AIderson and three
'hoboes' were taken offthe train and
sent back to Hinton. They were all
three from Virginia.
"William Fields, colored, was the
first witness. He testified that he
first saw Meadows at Thurmond,
again at Hinton before the freight
left, and that he had a hat on, but
when he next saw him, east of
Hinton, his hat was gone and he
said he lost it in a scuffle with a man
at Hinton.
"Now, about yourself," remarked
the Mayor, "What is your
occupation?"
"I'm a waitah, Suh," he replied.
"It is against the law for a hobo
to ride on a freight, and I'll just give
you $2.00 and the trimmings, and if
anyone ask you what you are doing
you can tell them that you are a
'waitah' down at the rock pile."
"The next witness was Ed.
Plunker, a white man, who said very
positively that he was not traveling
with the Negroes. The Negroes
THE BIBLE BATTLE
Dear Editor:
We are living in the last days prior
to the coming of the Lord Jesus
Christ. Therefore, these are days of
apostasy and the greatest of all
apostates are Baptist preachers.
(1st Tim. 4:1,2)
Consider the Reverend Larry
Oats, director of' Maranatha Bible
College (MBC), he said God could
have preserved His word, but
History proved he did not end of
quote. Now, this is the most
outrageous and misleading
statement that I ever heard. Notice
he uses tht., singular,ru-n, mord :
meaning the message, thought, idea
or concept, God preserved but not
the words. This is a serious
distortion with the intent to deceive.
But the scriptures are very clear
that God truly has preserved His
words (plural).
Psalms 13:6,7 - The words of the
Lord are pure words, as silver tried
in a furnace of earth, purified seven
times.
Mister, whoever you are, that is
Bible perfection.
Psalm 13:7 - 'rhou shalt preserve
them from this generation forever."
Now, that is bible preservation
and if a generation is twenty years,
God will preserve His words for
twenty thousand years.
Mister, whoever you are, that is
I II I
Bible preservation by God Almighty.
(Psalm 119:89)
Matthew 24:35 - "Heaven and
Earth shall pass away, but my words
shall not pass away." Mister, did you
hear that? That is Bible
preservation by God Almighty,
blessed be His holy name forever.
How then can this apostate,
deceitful preacher say that God has
not preserved His words? Listen,
this King James Bible is none other
than the voice of Him that sitteth
upon the throne. Every book of it,
very chapter o,it, every verse of it,
every word of it and every syllable

Thank God for those Baptist
preachers who are standing for the
defense of the King James Bible.
Our Baptist churches and places of
education, just about all, have been
polluted by Rome and it is a battle
in 20th century America to keep
oneself from today's apostasy.
Warning; by GOd Himself to all
preachers. (Jer. 26:2)-"Thus saith
the Lord; stand in the court of the
Lord's house and speak unto all the
cities of Judah, which come to
worship in the Lord's house, all the
words that I command thee to speak
unto them; diminish not a word."
