HINTON LADY CATS
The Lady Cats may have played
all their cards in the big win over
twice-defending Champion St. Ma-
rys Wed. night. HJnton beat the Lady
Devils 54 to 42. The win may have
taken a lot from the Lady Cats who
lost to Baileysville 60 to 51 Fri.
morning. The talk in Charleston
around the AA tournament was the
game between Hinton and St. Marys
would produce this year's champ.
The game was well played by beth
teams with Hinton pulling away in
the 3rd. quarter and never letting
St. Marys back into the game. St.
Marys could not buy a basket in the
2nd. half and I-Iinton could not miss
a shot. Kristen Koaton and Jenny
Mann each had 13 points to led their
team. Other scorers for Hinton were
Tabitha Lilly 9, Farrah Lilly 4,
Sharon Yopp 4, Kim Robertson 2,
Celena Angel] 3, and Melanie Bru-
mit 6. Hinton's win avenged a regu-
lar season lost to St. Marys and may
have made them overlook their next
opponent Bai]eysvJlle.
The talk now around the tourna-
ment was who would Hinton play
after Baileysville. But someone for-
got to tell Baileysville and they beat
Hinton the same way the Lady Cats
had beaten St. Marys. Baileysville
stayed close to Hinton for most of the
game and with less than 2 minutes
to go made their move. This time
Hinton could not buy a basket and
Baileysville did everything right.
Baileysville was beaten by Tucker
County 71 - 42, in the championship
game Sat. Hinton was led in scoring
by Kristen Keaton with 14 points.
Other scorers were Jenny Mann 8,
Joetta Cales 8, Melanie Brumit 6,
Sharon Yopp 6, Celena Angell 5, and
Farrah Lilly 4. Hinton finished the
year with 21 wins and only 4 losses.
The Class AA All-Tournament
team consisted of Chiqui tta Walker
of Valley, JennyMann of Hinton,
Sharmon Kenneda of BaJleysdlle,
Crystal Weaver of St. Mary's, Mich-
elle Crowl of Tucker County, Christie
Lamber of Lincoln, Donna Bailey of
Baileysville and Stephanie Shine of
Tucker.
Lincoln High School won the
Sportsmanship Award and the Best
Cheering Section.

New to the staff at the Summers
County Hospital is its new surgeon,
Dr. Ronald S. Seaton.
As an extension of the services
offered by the hospital, Dr. Seaton,
though not in private practice, does
work in cooperation with a patients
family doctor in providing in office,
outpatient surgery, examinations,
and hospital surgery at the doctor's
referral.
Mr. Wright, Summers County
Hospital administrator, states the
great benefits and advantages this
surgeon-on---staff will mean for the
patients. =Patients brought into the
hospital were almost always, in the
past, sent out to another hospital if
surgery was necessary. Now, under
this new arrangement, a patient,
whether referred by his/her physi-
cian or brought in on emergency
needing surgery can be cared for
right here in the hospital. Not only is
this medically more efficient for the
patient, but is also less costly, as
transport expenses will be elimi-
nated.
Administrative fellow, Scott
Mitchell added, %Vith the winter
season coming along, this arrange-
ment will be an advantage, also."
Dr. Seaton, originally from China,
received his training at John
Hopkins in Baltimore, Md. He spent
: xnany years practicing surgery dur-

An Update on the School.Levy
Mathews has removed him from his
"Hit List.
If the beard had followed Tassos
and Kessler's recommendations it
would be in the black today. It is
hard to terminate teachers though
when they appear before you waving
the WV School Law book saying they
are being denied due process also
one of them stated they would take
us to the highest court in the land if
we cut their job. The beard didn't
want to close any schools but the
state funding policy just doesn't give
enough money tokeep them. We will
be forced to consolidate,
Please don't be political in this
election. Don't be like the board has
been on so many occasions and vote
political just to get even with this
inept board. The real issue is the
students and that is why someone
needs to speak up. To get even with
the BeE go to the polls next May and

vote them out. Two terms expire in
1992 so just vote them out. Please
don't vote no just to get at the ROE
because y.ou will only be hurting the
students. The Board will not get any
money until 1992-1993 so the money
won't get them off the "hot seat
until two years of operating in the
red will be a matter of record.
I would like to make a personal
appeal to every teacher and their
families, to the retired teachers and
their families, and to the parents of
these students, please vote for the
students. Our future is in these
students and they desperately need
your support. A $5,000 assessed
residential property will be taxed at
only $22.95 more a year under the
levy. Talk to Billy Don Farley, our
assessor, if you want to know exactly
what you would be required to pay.

There seems to be a great deal of
misunderstanding concerning the
school levy. I hope the following will
clear up some of the false assump-
tions of the opponents of the levy.
I realize the voters of Summers
Co. have much distrust and doubt
concerning the Board of Education
and rightfully so because this beard
for the last one and one half years
has consistantly voted political in-
stead of being concerned with the
students welfare and to save money.
There is much that needs to be
said, but Dr. Mathews, Mr. Dillon,
and Mr. Neely'sattorney has a "gag
rule in the Tassos agreement that
keeps me silent on this issue. This
sounds like Hilter and his propa-
ganda mini ster Goebbals. Silence the
opposition and you can make the
electorate believe anything.
Please note the following and
consider them carefully before you
vote next Saturday.
1. Every county but Summers in
southern W.V. has an operating
school levy. Why is Summers differ-
ent? Don't we need a levy?
2.WyomngCo.votedin their last
levy by a 91% majoring, yet at the
end of this school year they will be
$700,000.00 in the red.
3. Three counties in southern WV
vote this fall on a bend issue in
addition to their school operating
levies. Logan and Greenbrier County
failed but hope is high that a
$31,000,000.00 bend issue will pass
in Raleigh Co.
4. Fourteen counties in the state
will have budgets in the red this
year. Many of them by much bigger
margins than Summers.
5. The reason Summer stayed in
the black so long was due to the skill
of the business administrator Joe
Kessler and the management ofSu pt.
school administrator in tiae stxte ii
not the best. I would hope Dr.
