Thirteen students from the Hin- ton Tri-Hi-Y recently attended the annual Hi-Y Fall Conference held Nov. 15-17 at Jackson's Mill State 4- H Camp and Conference Center in Weston, W.Va. The Hinton Tri-Hi-Y and Hi-Y Fall Conference are both sponsored by the Ohio-West Virginia YMCA. Hi-Y, or high school YMCA, is a leadership and service organization that focuses Qn im proving schools and communities through the eflbrts of its young people. Through Hi-Y, teens get crucial support from both peers and adults to use their time to ful than ever,  said David King, Executive Director of the Oh-W.Va. YMCA. "Hi-Y members are always anxious to "learn new ways to im- prove their club programs at home, as well as to experience the fun and fellowship that is such an important part of Hi-Y? Delegates participated in work- shops on fundraising, motivation, involving members, publicity, self- esteem, and others, including a major session on the importance of com- munity service. €Most of all,  says King, "we are trying to show these students how critical volunteering and servi ng others is. Angel J. Ward Named To Who's Who versa ties and Colleges. She is a sopho- more majoring in Elementary Edu- cation K-8 at Concord College. She is a member of Concord's Student Union Board and College Activities Board, and has been on the Dean's List for the past three semesters. Angel is the daughter of Jeannie Halloran and stepfather Edward Halloran, Jr., and granddaughter to Carl and Louise Meadows, all of Barger Springs. She has two brothers, Chris and Scott Ward, and a sister, Chrystal Ward, who is also attending Con- cord College as a freshman. 4-H News By Joey Hartwell The Green Sulphur Springs Mohawk 4-H Club began its new club year with a covered dish dinner, awards ceremony, and installation of officers on Sept. 29th. from 2 till 4 p.m. at the Lick Creek Baptist Church. After the dinner, a regular busi- ness meeting was conducted, and afterwards, various awards and pins were given out, such as officer pins and teen leader pins for the previous year. As the final event of the gath- ering, the new officers were installed. The officers for the 1991-92 year are as follows: Presi dent- Tara Scott; Vi ce-Presi - dent - Stacy Martin; Secretary - Renee Livesay; Treasurer - Kim Hartwell; Reporter - Joey Hartwell; Song Leaders - Sonya Bragg, An- drea Mansfield; Recreation Leaders - Brock Lively, Charlotte Mansfield; Angel J. Ward has been named to Sgt. at Arms - Regina Martin. Who's Who Among American Uni- The dub also met again on Nov. IIIIIIIIIII 5th. During this meeting, the mem- bers decided to sell hand-made wreaths and to set up a special meeting this spring for filling out the Annual Activity Records. The Mohawk 4-H Club would like to invite anyone who is interested learning more about 4-H to attend a local 4-H meeting. 4-H is open to all young people ages nine through twenty-one. Through 4-H, young people can gain important skills and make new friendships that will last throughout their lives.
