Obituaries
OSWALD E. BENNETT
Oswald E. Bennett, 66, of 439
Westmoreland Dr., died Thurs., Nov.
14, 1991, in Los Angeles, Calif., fol-
lowing a short illness.
Born Jan. 2, 1925, at Hinton, he
was the son of the late James E. and
Emma Richmond Bennett.
Mr. Bennett was a six-year resi-
dent of Dunbar, lived his early life at
Brooks and most of his life in Los
Angeles.
He was retired manager for Alcan
Aluminum Company in Los Angeles
and was a World War II veteran.
Survivors include a sister, Imo-
gene Beavers of Dunbar, whom he
resided with; a brother, David Ben-
nett of Pecks Mill and several nieces
and nephews.
Memorial services were held at 1
p.m. Sat. Dec. 7 at the Ronald Mead-
ows Funeral Parlors Chapel, Hinton
with the Rev. Bruce Creswell offici-
ating.
Donations of sympathy may be
made to the Fox Cemetery Fund, c/o
James A. Fox, HC74, Box 290,
Brooks, WV 25951.

LESLIE A. MARTIN
Leslie A. Martin, 81, died at 8:25
p.m., Men. Dec. 2, 1991, at a Beckley
hospital, following a long illness.
Born Aug. 21,1910, at Sandstone,
he was the son of the late Walter A.
and Nannie K. Harrah Martin.
Mr. Martin was a lifelong resi-
dent of Summers Co., active in farm-
ing as long as his health permitted,
a World War II veteran and a mem-
ber of the Ramp Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a
brother, Johnny A. Martin on July
20, 1983.
Survivors include five sisters,
Myrtle Smith and Dorothy Grim-
mett, both of Hill dale, Leatha Bowles
and Edith William s, both of Hix, and
Charlene Adkins of Tug Creek Rd.,
Hinton; and a brother, Charles
Martin of Lorraine, Oh.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Fri.
Dec. 6 at the Chestnut Grove Bap-
tist Church, with the Revs. Eddie
Johnson and Benny Allen officiat-
ing. Burial followed in the Foster
Cemetery, Ramp.
• The body was at the Ronald
Meadows Funeral Parlors, Hinton,
and one hour prior to the services at
the church.
MASON SILAS SIMMONS
Mason Silas Simmons, 87, for-
merly of Lowell, Summers County,
died Sat. Dec. 7, 1991, in a Low
Moor, Vs., hospital, of natural
causes.
Born Jan. 26, 1904, in Raleigh
County, he was the son of the late
Charley Simmons and Liona Mann
Simmons.
Mr. Simmons was a member of
the Keller Presbyterian Church, a
retired carpenter with the C & O
Railroad with 43 years of service,
and a farmer. He was a member of
the Brotherhood of Maintenance of
Way Lodge No. 0139 and the Talcott
Masonic Lodge No. 100 of A.F. and
A.M.
He was preceded in death by his
wife, Mary Gwinn Simmons; and
four brothers, Dorsie Simmons,
Everette Simmons, Howard Sim-
mons, and Clarence Simmons.
Survivors include a sister, Effie
Simmons Craft of Alderson; and
several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tues. at
the Lobban Funeral Home Chapel,
Alderson, with the Rev. Stewart
McMurray officiating. Burial .will
follow in the Riverview Cemetery
near Alderson.

Amateur Radio
Licenses
The Charleston Area VE Group
will conduct Amateur Radio License
Examinations for all classes of li-
censes on Dec. 14th. The test session
is open to all Hams who wish to
upgrade or to anyone interested in
obtainingan AmateurRadio License.
The session will be held on Sat.
Dec. 14, at Capital High School, 1500
Greenbrier St., Charleston, WV (Rt.
114). Applicants should plan to ar-
five at 8:00 AM. Examinations will
commence promptly at 9:00 AM.
The fee for the examination is
$5.25 and the check should be pay-
able to ARRL-VEC. The check and a
completed Form 610 should be sent
to: Jim Lingan-ACSK, 1528 Hamp-

Forest Hill Elementary News
On Nov. 18th., Mr. Skidmore the
immediate past State Commander
of Disabled American Veterans and
present commander of the Summers
County Chapter of Disabled Ameri-
can Veterans and his wife, the
immediate past State Commander
of Disabled American Veteran Aux-
iliary presented an informative pro-
gram on flag history and etiquette to
the 5th and 6th graders at Forest
Hill School. The program was set up
by'mvernor Caperton as a means of
instilling in our students the impor-
tance of our flag and the manner in
which we should treat it.
The Skidmores showed a display
of ten flags that have been used
throughout the history of our coun-
try. They discussed many issues
concerning the flag including: the
flag code, a standard of how we
shouht treat the flag; how to salute

will be visiting the living Christmas
tree at the Memorial B a pitst Church.
The club is sponsored by teacher
Rita Pack.
The Christmas tree is located in
Beckley. Dec. 13th. is the scheduled
day for the trip.
