CEOS Meets
"Breast Cancer was the topic of
the October 12th meeting of the
Jumping Branch/Nimitz
Community Educational Outreach
Service.
Lesson leader Donna Baker
explained that just being a woman
and getting older puts us at risk for
breast cancer. Other risk factors
such as a family history of breast
cancer, having children later in life
or never having children at all were
discussed. The importance of diet,
exercise, breast self-exams and
yearly mammograms were also
stressed. Early detection can save
your breast and your life.
Summers County Commissioner
Richard Meador, accompanied by
Commissioners Lonnie Mullins and
Clyde Grimmett, proclaimed
October as Cancer Awareness Month
during the wrath hanging ceremony
at the Summers County Courthouse.
Summers County Extension Agent
Bonnie Hunley joined members of
the CEOS as they handed out
Cancer Awareness Information
Packets following the reading of the
proclamation.

Ms. Pruitt's math classes in
grades 3,4, and 5 have just
completed a MatL-A-Thon for St.
Jude Children's Hospital. The
children have collected over $650.00
by doing math problems. Donations
are continuing to be sent to Ms.
Pruitt fcr this worthy cause.
Why help St. Jude Children's
Hospital?
* Cancer fs the leading disease
killer of American Children.
* Approximately 4,000 children
are being seen at St. Jude
* St. Jude also studies other
catastrophic childhood diseases such
as sickle cell anemia, thalassemia,
and podiatric AIDS.
* Research findings are freely
shared worldwide.
*Admission to St. Jude is based
on physician referral and
determination that the illness is
under study. St. Jude covers all costs
not covered by insurance. Families
with insurance are never asked to
pay.
*St. Jude is non-sectarian,
treating children without regard to
tce, religion, or creed.
* St. Jude Children's Research
Hospital is supported primarily by
public contributions.
Ms. Pruitt and the students
would like to thank everyone that
helped make this project very
successful. M& Pruitt said that the
students enjoyed helping fellow
students that were less fortunate.
Again, thanks from the students
and staff at Jumping Branch
Elementary.

THE IMPORTANCE OF PRAYER IN THE LIFE OF THE BEUEVER:
Prayer is the essential link to God's power and resources. Valn is
the help of man, but through God we shall do vallantly. Psalm 60
is one of the great chapters on prayer:
THE_NEED FOR PRAYERI Verses I-:3, We see a'threefold
perception held by many in time of trouble: 1.DEJECTION Verse
l-"Thou has cast me off" How often this the fsellng of many (f
us." 2.DISCIPLINE: Verse l-"Thou hast scattered us."
&DISPLEASURE-- Verse I "Thou has been dlsplsesed." And yet
God's hand is moving behind the scenes through (I) Physlcal
trauma (v.2) (2) Personal. trials (V.3) publlclzed truth (v.4) In times
of trials and uncertainties our energles must be directed to God
in prayer for "His perception" to the trial.
THE VOICE OF PRAYER VERSES 1.5. In this prayer the pselmlet
cries forth: "Oh God....restore us....hesl us." Hls prayer to God Is
threefold: 1. Draw us back to yourself (Verse 1) 2. Bring hsellng
to our surroundings (Verse 2) 3. Deliver us by Thy dght hand (Verse
5) Knowing he is the Lord's beloved, he can expect the Lord to
"hear" end "restore." This same prlnclpal Is true for Godlpla
to-day. ,, ,
THE VICTORY OF PRAYER: Verses 6-12: David's prayer evokes
the voice of God from amid His Holiness. God responds with a
threefold series of "1 wills": 1. "1 will reJolclPMY JOY: (v.6) 2. "1
will divide" MY DIRECTION: (V.6.) 3. "1 will cast my shoe.MY
CONFIRMATION (v.8) How important to remember to "Pray without
ceasing" i Thess. 5:17.
