The West Virginia National
Guard is a community-based de-
fense force. Our state's 32 armor-
ies and two air bases provide fa-
cilities for 1.200 full-time and
5,800 pan-time National Guard per-
sonnel, with an annual economic
impact of$110 million on the West
Virginia economy.
Recently, the West Virginia
Army National Guard marked an-

the overall readiness of National
Guard units across the country.
Through the efforts of the West Vir-
ginia Adjutant General, Major Gen: ,
cral Allen Tackett, and the efforts
of the dedicated personnel. West
Virginia once again proved that its
National Guard is the best in the
nation.
To help the Guard keep this
record for many years to come, I
am working on a number of initia-
tives designed to maintain this high
state of readiness. Of particular
note. this summer, the West Vir-
ginia National Guard awarded a
contract for construction of the new
Regional Training Institute at Camp
Dawson, Preston.County. Last
year, I obtained $15,2 million for
construction of the Regional Train-
ing Institute, which, when com-
plete, will fill an important role in
preparing members of the National
Guard. Reserve. and active duty
forces. Staff at this specialized
complex will provide training in
Special Forces, Engineering,
selected Combat Arms, and basic
leadership training to more than

celebrated 50 years of marriage with
a reception from 2-4 PM, July 17th.

children: Teresa and Bob Adkins,
Wise, VA.; David Humphreys,
Tallahassee, F1.; Larry and Jill,
Humphreys, Sturgis, MI., and'
grandchildren, Jesse, Andy, Amber
and Alex Humphreys.
The couple were married July 21,
1949 at the home of Rev. L. D.
Candler at Peterstown, WV.
Attendants were Emma Jean Shires
Biggs and Early Humphreys. They
are both graduates of Peterstown
High School and Sid from Coyne
Electric School of Chicag0, IL. Sid is
retired from the CSX Railway with
36 years of service.
A beautiful three-tiered wedding
cake was prepared and served by
• Carolyn Jones, Irene's sister-in-law.
The hall was decorated with a yellow
rose centerpiece, gold bows,
balloons, and banners designed by

1999 CHRISTMAS PARADE
The 1999 Annual Christmas
parade will be held Saturday,
December 4, 1999 at 1:00 p. m. in
Downtown Hinton. This year's
theme is " A Season for New
Beginnings ". Make plans to join us
as we enjoy the festivities that
surround the parade and the
Christmas Season. Those of you who
