Letter to the Editor
Regarding The New
River Parkway:
Dear Editor:
For 10 years the residents of
Raleigh and Summers County have
been assured land acquisition would
be a willing-seller basis, limited to
road-width need. Property owners
were assured their property would
be protectedl Behind our backs, all
of that changed? When I asked why
all my land, not just a few feet, was
now going to be taken along the New
River Road to build the parkway, I
was told by the West Virginia
Department of Highways, "someone
suggested it would be nice to have
all the land along there."
"NICE TO HAVE" is to covet and
violates Gods tenth commandmentI
Changing "NICE TO HAVE" to
"NEEDED TO PROCEED" violates
God's ninth commandment. Taking
private property against the owners
wishes breaks God's eighth
commandment.
There are laws against what is
being done to the private property
owners'along the New River Road!
Laws applicable for those of us who
"still believe in God and the ten
commandments, that is, or has that
changed too? They haven't changed
where they're going to put the
parkway, have they? This is still
"THE BIBLE BELT," isn't it?

Christmas Toy Fund
Needs Your Help
The Hinton Ruritan Christmas
Toy Fund needs your help. Family
sponsors are needed. These sponsors
will provide the entire Christmas for
all children, 12 years of age and
under, in that family. Many
individuals and groups have
sponsored families in the past. The
Hinton Ruritan Club would like to
thank them for their help previously
and encourage their continued
support this year.
In 1998 the Toy Fund provided
clothing and toys for 346 children
from 177 families. Of these 177
families, 100 were sponsored by
individuals like you or by groups like
yours. If you or your group, club, or
organization would like to
participate in the Summers County
