Mrs. Deano Ray Smith
Atkins - Smith
Smith, niece of the groom. She wore
a powder blue printed-satin dress
identical to the bridesmaid's and
pushed a doll carriage, lavishly
draped in white satin, which had an
attached white wicker basket of rose
petals and carried a dragon (former
mascot of the MIT Space Systems
Laboratory).
The groom wore a white full-dress
Christian Dior tuxedo with powder
blue cummerbund and tie.
William Proy" Tucker of Albur-
querque, New Mexico, served as best
man.
The groomsmen were Mark
Hutchens of Charlotte, N.C.; Keith
Compton of Charleston, S.C.; and
Lorin Selby of Cambridge, Mass.
They were attired in pearl gray
tailcoats with satin lapels by Bill
Bless and matching ties and cum-
merbunds.
Nathan Adkins, cousin of the
bride, was the ring bearer. He wore
a pearl gray tailcoat identical to the
groomsmen's.
The guest book was attended by
Genevieve McNeer, aunt of the bride.
The wedding was directed by
Margaret Musick of Bramwell.
A buffet style reception followed
at the Pence Springs Hotel. The
formal dining room was decorated
with powder blue and white flowers
and ribbons. The focal point was the
bridal party's table centered with a
large floral arrangement cascading
to floating candles, cherubs, and
"Snoopy" bowing to the guests. On
each table throughout the room
baskets of flowers were accented by
candles nod "Snoopy" characters.
The three-tiered wedding cake
was highlighted by a fountain spray-
ing blue water through green ivy.
Blue and white flowers decorated
the second layer, and to top off the
third layer were "Belle" an d"Snoopy"
as bride and groom• Ribbons
streamed to five chocolate heart-
shaped cakes at the base.
Music for dancing on the terrace
was provided by DJ Steve Gregory of
Bluefield.
Ella's and Deano's friends from
out of town included members of the
MIT Space System s Laboratory and
the U.S. Navy as well as several of
Deano's former classmates from
Utah.
The bride is a 1984 graduate of
Hinton High School and in 1990
received a Master of Science Degree
in Aeronautical and Astronautical
Engineenng from the Massachusetts
Insitute of TechnOlogy. She is em-
ployed by the Strdctural Dynamics
Research Corporation in San Diego,
Ca.
The groom is a 1982 graduate of
Granger High School in West Val}ey
City, Utah, and in 1986 received
Bachelor of Science Degrees in both
Physics and Mathematics from Utah
State University. He is a Nuclear
Engineer Qualified Submarine Offi-
cer and is serving at the Navy's Deep
Submergence Unit in San Diego.
After an Australian honeymoon,
which included the Great Barrier
Reef and the Australian Outback,
Ella and Deano are residing in San
Diego.
KARATE CLUB
Hinton Karate Club will be meet-
ing on Mondays 6:30 - 8:30 at City
Side Track. New students welcome.
Ella Marie Atkins of Union and
Deano Ray Smith of Salt Lake City,
were united in marriage Sept. 1 at
4:00 p.m. at the Old Greenbrier
Bapti st Church in Aldereon. The Rev.
Fred Cook of Lerona performed the
double ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Mason Atkins of Union.
She is the granddaughter of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Homer Neely of
Pipestem and the late Mr. and Mrs.
B.M. Atkins of Union.
The groom is the son of Mr. Gor-
don Smith and the late Mary Beatrice
Smith of Salt Lake City. He is the
grandson of Mrs. Gertrude Hender-
son of Valdosta, Ga.
The front of the sanctuary was
amassed with flowers and glisten-
ing brass. The focal point was a 15
candle heart-shaped candelabra
:) which featured a white floral ar-
.rangement. Two 14 candle match-
ing candelabras featured brass bas-
kets of white gladioli and rcees. The
unity candle and the kneeling bench
were dramatically draped with blue
• lace ribbons and decorated with ivy
• and stephanotis. To complete the
setting were shoulder-height white
wicker baskets of white gladioli,
• giant mums, and roses. All of the
floral arrangements were accented
with blue lace ribbons and bows.
Each candle-lit pew featured ar-
rangements of delicate blue and
white roses.

The wedding began with =I Love
You r sung by Eloise Atkins, mother
of the bride. At the conclusion of the
ceremony, she sang 'he Lord's
Prayer'just before the lightingofthe
unity candle.
Escorted to the altar by her father
and given in marriage by her par-
ents, the bride wore a white satin
gown with a wedding band neckline
and illusion yoke. The bodice fea-
tured an imported lace applique
design and was sprinkled with se-
quins and seed larls. The Renais-
sance sleeves were appliqued with
lace and pearls. The A-line skirt
ended with a ruffle and the back
waist dropped with a semi-cathe-
dral train with matching ruffles and
appliques.
The chapel length veil, featuring
calloped beading decorated with
seed pearls and lace, was attached to
a headpiece having appliques oflaco,
seed pearls, and sequins.
She carried a cascading crescent
bouquet of glamellias, white lilies,
roses, stephanotis, and freesia
sprinkled with seed pearls and pale
blue tulle.
The maid of honor was Vicky
Rowley of Philadelphia, Penn.
