MRS. RUTH BURDETTE
Mrs. Ruth Burdette, 67, of Big
Creek, Summers County, died Oct.
30, 1991, at her home after a long
illness.
She was a lifelong resident of
Summers County. She was a home-
maker and a member of Big Creek
Baptist Church.
Surviving: husband, Robert Bur-
dette; sons, David of Hinton, Bill of
Alderson, Mike of Elton; daughters,
Linda Kothe and Betty Tincher, both
of Norwood, Oh.; Judy Orphey of
Toledo, Oh.; sisters, Kathleen Kicks
of Hinton, Jean Hall of Big Creek;
brother, Bob Cales of Lewisburg;
seven grandchildren; four stepgrand-
children; seven stepgreat-grandchil-
dren.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Sat.
Nov. 2 at Big Creek Baptist Church
with the Rev. Lovable Williams and
the Rev. James Ritch officiating.
Burial followed in the Greenbrier
Burial Park, Hinton. The body was
at the Ronald Meadows Funeral
Home, Hinton , and one hour prior to
the service at the church.
JENNINGS MACK CALES
Jennings Mack Cales, 50, of Rt. 3,
formerly of Hilldale, died at 10:30
p.m. Mon. Oct. 28, 1991, in a
Roanoke, Va., hospital, following a
long illness.
Born Dec. 13, 1940, at Clinton-
ville, he was the son of the late Minor
Cales and Ruth McCloud Cales
Sears.
Mr. Cales had been a resident of
Callahan since 1963 and lived the
early part of his life at Hilldale.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran
and a retired mechanic for Hercules
Corporation.
Survivors include a brother, Glen-
don M. Cales of Hilldale; and a sis-
ter, Florence Cales of N.C.
Graveside services and burial
were held at 1 p.m. Wed. Oct. 30 at
the Woodrumtown Cemetery near
Hinton, with Elder A.L. Neely offici-
ating.
There was no visitation.
Donations of sympathy may be
made to the American Cancer Soci-
ety.
Arrangements by Ronald Mead-
ows Funeral Parlors, Hinton.
TRESSIE N. MILLER
Mrs. Tressie Noble Thompson
Miller, 96, of Beckley, died Man. Oct.
28, 1991,in a Beckley hospital, fol-
lowing a short illness.
Born Jan. 24, 1895, at Indian
Mills, she was the daughter of the
late Lorenza and Josephine Lowe
Noble.
Mrs. Miller was a homemaker, a
member of the Ann Rose Sunday
School Class, member of the First
Baptist Church of Beckley and a
member of the Gideon Auxiliary and
was a 85-year resident of Beckley.
She was preceded in death by her
first husband, Hugh Thompson; two
sons, Clarence and Kelly Lee Th-
ompson; a granddaughter, Teresa
Thompson; two sisters and one
brother.
Survivors include her husband,
Opha E. Miller; a son, James H. and
his wife, Frances Miller ofBeckley; a
brother, Ray Noble of Peterstown;
four grandchildren; sixgreat-grand-
children, and two great-great-grand-
children.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Wed.
Oct. 30 at the Blue Ridge Funeral
Home Chapel with Dr. David Carr-
ico and Earl Whitener Jr. officiat-
ing. Entombment followed in the
Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens
Mausoleum of Serenity.
Pallbearers were the men of the
First Baptist Church and Local
Gideon Camp.
Arrangements by Blue. Ridge
Funeral Home, Prosperity.

GLENNA J. MORGAN
Mrs. Glenna Jane Morgan, 86,
died Sun. Oct. 27, 1991, in a Fairlea
care center.
Born Apr. 8, 1905, at Ronceverte,
she was the daughter of the late
James D. and Alice Morgan Honaker.
Mrs. Morgan was a lifelong resi-
dent of Ronceverte, was a member of
the Greenbrier Regular Baptist
Church and was a former member of
the Eastern Star in Hinton.
She was preceded in death by her
husband, Lonnie H. Morgan Sr. in
1975; two sisters, Margaret Tooth-
man and Pauline Bland and a
brother, Woodrow Honaker.
Survivors include two daughters,
Mrs. Edwin (Peggy) Webb of Fairlea
and Sheldon (Jean) Michelinie of
Fairlea; a son, Lonnie H. Morgan Jr.
of Clifton Forge, Va.; two sisters,
Blanche Sharer of Caldwell and
Christine Morgan of Alderson; eight
grandchildren, and seven great-
grandchildren.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Wed.
OCt. 30 at the Greenbrier Regular
Baptist Church, Ronceverte with
Brother Earl McGuffey and Brother
Gary Baker officiating. Burial fol-
lowed in the Salem Presbyterian
Church, Organ Cave.
The body was at the Wallace and
Wallace Funeral Home, Ronceverte.
Any donations of sympathy may
be made to the Seneca Trail Chris-
tian Academy, a ministry of the
Greenbrier Regular Baptist Church.
ERNEST C. PLUMLEY
Ernest C. Plumley, 87, of 904 Teel
Rd., Beckley, died 5:06 p.m. Thurs.
Oct. 24, 1991, in a Beckley hospital,
following a short illness.
Born Dec. 3, 1903, at Abraham,
he was the son of the late Charlie
and Nancy Buckland Plumley.
Mr. Plum]ey was a retired coal
min'eL a member of the Maxwell Hill
Baptist Church, the UMW, District
No. 29, and had been a 30-year resi-
dent of 904 Teei Rd.
Mr. Plumley lived the past eight
years with his son and daughter-in-
law, Charles and Peggy Plumley.
He was preceded in death by his
wife, Mary Susie Plumley on Oct. 28,
1982; a daughter; three brothers,
Jack, Jessie and Ands Piumley; and
three sisters, Cora, Ads and Virgie.
Survivors include eight sons,
Edward and his wife, Lola Plumley
of Parsons, Charles and his wife,
Peggy Plumley of Beckley, Glen and
his wife, Faye Plumley of State
College,Pa., Paul and his wife, Bar-
bara Plumley of Justice, Ill., Darrell
and his wife, Shannon Plumley of
Ashland, Ky., David Plumley of
Beckley, Henry and his wife, Kathy
Plumley of Mount Hope and James
"Buttons" and his wife, Mary
Plumley of Missoula, Mont.; six
daughters, Mrs. ale (Ethel) Williams
of Sand Branch, Mrs. Walker (Ei-
leen) Amole of Avenue, Md., Mrs.
Ronald (Margaret) Sneddon of
Wheelersburg, Oh., Mrs. David
(Juanita) Motor of Beckley,Mrs.
Robert (Mary) Persinger of Cleve-
land, Oh., and Mrs. Derald (Nancy)
Sweeney of Morgantown, N.C.; two
brothers, Roy Plumley of Prince and
Roscoe Plumley of Nimitz; four sis-
ters, Inez Farley and Stella
Richmond, both of Shady Spring and
Nellie Morris and Ercell Plumley,
both of Beckley; 49 grandchildren,
67 great-grandchildren, and five
great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Man.
Oct. 28 at the Maxwell Hill Baptist
Church, 301 Teel Rd., Beckley, with
the Revs. Clarence E. Griffith and
Ken Killen officaiting. Burial fol-
lowed in the Blue Ridge Memorial
Gardens, Prosperity.
The body was at the Rose and
Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beck-
ley and one hour prior to the services
Tues. Nov. 5, 1991 Hinton News - 3
at the church.
Pallbearers were Eldon and Harry
Smith, Fred Miller, Shirley Cole,
Jim Jones and Lowell Cawley.
Arrangements were by the Rose
and Quesenberry Funeral Home,
Beckley.
DENNIS W. RICHMOND
Dennis Wayne Richmond, 33, died
Sun. Oct. 27, 1991, at his home.
Born Jan. 21, 1958, in Summers
County, he was the son of Mrs. Syble
O'Bryan Richmond of Clayton and
the late Arlie Richmond.
Mr. Richmondd was a lifelong
resident of Summers County.
He was ,preceded in death by a
brother, Arlie Dean Richmond, in
Nov. of 1987.
Other survivors include his wife,
Brenda Richmond Richmond; two
sons, Jesse James and Dennis Wayne
Richmond Jr., both at home; mater.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Thurs.
Oct. 30, at the Tempa Baptist
Church, with the Rev. Melvin Wills
officiating. Burial followed in the
Williams-Richmond Cemetery, Clay,
ton.
The body was at the Ronald
Meadows Funeral Parlors, Hinton,
and one hour prior to the services at
the church.
VIRGINIA L. THOMAS
Virginia L. Thomas, 75, of 265
Main St., died Oct. 13, 1991 in Hin.
ton.
Born at Tracer, IA. on Sept. 22,
1916, she was the daughter of Paul
and Zenaide Kahler Thomas.
She was a retired scientist and
member of the VCS Church in Tracer,
IA. She also was a member of vari-
ous amientific environmental groups.
Listed in Who's Who of American
Woman and American Men and
Women of Science.
Survivors include one brother
John R. Thomas; 4 neices and neph-
ews, grand and great-grand nieces
and nephews also survived.
Funeral services were heldon OCt.
18, 1991 at Tracer, IA.
