Garten had the blessing on the
snacks at break-time and we enjoyed
the food as always. Thanks to the
Morns that fixed it.
Our annual Vacation Bible School
was held July 8th. -12th. with about
45 average attendance. The theme
was " Faith Mountain" & our daily
offerings raised $115.02 for missions
• On Friday we had our closing
program which included our songs,
puppet visit and awards which are
too numerous to mention. Then Bob
Cales closed with prayer and asked
the blessing on the food. Our thanks
to the Hinton Pizza Hut for their
help with that. A marshmallow roast
was held beside a tent (which was
part of our theme) to finish off the
night. Many hours went into the
week of VBS and we appreciate each
person that gave of themselves to
make it a success.
Our Annual Church picnic was
held on August llth. on the lawn of
the church immediately following
the morning worship service. There
was 74 in attendance and Pastor
Roger had the blessing before the
meal . After eating, the children
played ball and the teenagers had a
few games of volleyball. They even
let the 40 and 60 year old "teens"
play . Everyone else enjoyed the
afternoon of fellowship . The next
weekend was our annual trip to the
"Wheeler Campground" (Jimmy &
Vickie Wheeler's backyard) for a
camp-out• We began putting our
tent's up around 5 pm on Friday the
16th. and we were assisted by a
neighbor Mr. McMillion, Alvin
Garten, Jimmy Wheeler and our
dad's. Later, we got our sticks and
cooked our wee -nees over the fire.
Betty Garten had the blcssing and
we enjoyed our food e.d ,f course
our s'mores as well. When it began
to get dark Renee Kounse got us in
a circle around the fire for a time of'
singing, skits and sharing. We also
had a drawing for a basketball and
older girls also assisted them which
was very much appreciated.
The next morning breakfast was
served and Kassi Hedrick offered the
blessing. We helped clean up and
went to our separate homes.
Our thanks to those who helped
take our tents down and to all
especially the wheeler's for having
us. Now it's time to go back to school
and college but it has been a fun
Summer.

Letter to the Editor
One Word Can
Change the
Meaning
Dear Editor,
Proper communication requires
proper language. If we are to
understand the Word of God, it
needs to be written in such a way as
to not be ambiguous. The plan of
salvation is very plain in many
versions of the Bible, but much of
our study of the Bible becomes
clouded by our not having the proper
translation of certain words. Paul
told Timothy, =Study to shew thyself
approved unto God, a workman that
needth not to be ashamed, rightly
dividing the word of truth." This
applies not only to study of God's
Word, but study to gain at least a
basic knowledge of the English
language. Many false doctrines
have been fostered through well
meaning people who simply don't
understand what they read.
The King James Version of the
Bible, Philippians 4:13 reads; "I can
do all things through Christ which
strengtheneth me."
The New King James Version
reads; "I can do all things through
Christ who strengthens me."
At first glance, many individuals
do not catch the difference. The
difference is the relative pronoun
used. A relative pronoun must
always agree with its antecedent. In
this case the antecedent of which is
things in the King James Version.
The relative pronoun which refers
to lower animals or things, never a
proper noun. If the word which is
correct then we will understand the
verse to mean; because I have
Christ, all things strengthens me.
The subject that Paul was discussing
with the church at Philippi was the
hardship he was going through. In
other words, Paul was saying the
trials he was going through made
him stronger because of his faith in
Christ. I am of the opinion that the
New King James Version is the
better translation. The word "who"
has been chosen rather than
"which." In this case, the antecedent
of who is Christ. The proper word to
refer to Christ would have to be who.
It says we can take what ever comes
our way because Christ gives us the
strength to do it.
I would say this to those
individuals who believe that the
King James Version of the Bible is
the only inspired Word of God, any
version of the Bible that can give you
a better understanding of God's
Word is God's inspired Word. To God
be the glory, Amen.
