5. How much is the early
retirement reduction if a spouse
begins receiving an annuity at
age 62 instead of age 65?
For spouses not eligible for
full annuities before age 65, the
reduction is 1-180 for each
month the spouse is under age
65 when the annuity begins.
The reduction at age 62 comes
to 20 percent of the amount that
would be payable at age 65. For
example, a spouse annuity am-
onnting to $250 at age 65 would
be reduced to $200 if payment
begins at age 62.
6. Besides the age require-
ments, are there any other
requirements for a spouse ann-
uity?
The employee and spouse
must be members of the same
household, or the spouse must
be receiving regular support
payments from the employee,
or the employee must be under
court order to make such pay-
ments.
