Church News By Becky Spencer The Ladies Friendship Circle met on September 4, at the Summers County Hospital-to visit the residents of the ARH Long Term Care Unit. We visited in each room and we stopped several times in the hallway to sing some of the Old Hymns. Several of the residents joined us in singing these beautiful old songs. We had a wonderful time visiting with these dear people. We want to thank the staff for their kindness and help during our visit. Mr. Russell Gill was ordained as a deacon of Friendship Baptist Church. It was a blessing to share in this special service with our church family and with Brother Russell's family. Brother Russell and his wife, Nancy, are faithful members of our church. He serves as an usher and he and Nancy sing in our choir. They are a great blessing to Friendship Baptist Church. Our annual Church Picnic was held on September 27 at the Hilldale Community Park. The ladies of the church prepared a wonderful dinner. The tables were decorated with fall leaves and large orange pumpkins. This year at our picnic we held our first "Matchbox Car" Race. Victor Garcia and his son, Vic, made a large wooden race track for the ' "Matchbox" cars. Everyone gathered around to watch these exciting races! Trophies were presented to everyone who participated in the races and the winners of each race received a "gold" metal. It was great fun for the children and for the young at heart. News from Freedom Baptist Church By Karen Cales Members of the Freedom Baptist Church just completed a wonderful revival the week of Sept. 21st. thru 27th. Junior Moye of Nimitz bought messages nightly as God challenged our hearts and minds. Special singers during the week included the Freedom Baptist Church Choir, Howard Vest, Robert and Helen Mock, Frankie Williams, Karen Cales, Jack Cales, Edith Bennett, and Coleman Leslie. Pastor George "Pete" Cook opened each night with the song "Lord We Praise You." On Saturday, Sept. 28th., members of the Freedom Baptist Church and friends went on a hayride. Everyone met at the home of Harold and Kay Holland at Marie. Even though it rained it did not dampen the fun. Everyone climbed knife. Some of the younger riders played games in the rain while others gathered on the porch to keep dry. When the rain stopped it was decided to cut the evening short and head for the barn. The oldest to ride was Hazel Florence of Willowwood Road, while the youngest to attend was three month old Brody Cales of Hilldale. Everyone had their own form of rain gear which ranged from rain coats, to plastic bags, to shower caps. We were a real site on the road. Its a good thing it was on a country road or we might have caused a wreck or two. God blessed us and all returned safe and no one came down sick from the rainy day. We are in the process of building on to the church. The men of the church are adding two more Sunday School rooms and enlarging the on three hay wagons pulled by the fellowship hall. The area is under trators driven by Harold Holland, roofnowandwehopel on,gvthe Dayton Lowry and Tom Turner. The b-iCk on ]ei ti a. gins wagons were pulled about five mileS' on:the'inSide.
