Summers County 4-H Pony Pals MEMBERS SHOWN Left - Mareelyn McQuaig, middle front-John Mann, right-Sarah Nelson, middle rear-Toni McQuaig-Leader. Other members that helped out but not shown are Rachel Amick, and new member Stephanie Tabor. Summers County's only 4-H horsemanship club participated in the WV State Fair's Junior Horseshow. Even though only two of the clubs members exhibited their horses, the majority of the members worked as a team to help out with all the tasks involved that it takes to show a horse. This includes grooming, bathing, braiding the horse, along with cleaning stalls, fe.ding, and much more. Most i[portantly the club was there for moral support for their fellow club members that were exhibiting. The two exhibitors were Mareelyn McQuaig, 9 years old; and Sarah Nelson, 14 years old; who are both advanced beginners. Between Mareelyn and Sarah they received 4 third place ribbons; which is difficult when competing against all counties from the state. The rest of the club members to help were: Rachael Amick, John Mann, and new member Stephanie Tabor. The parents of this club are also very supportive and helpful, they were Janet and Gene Amick, Mary Mann, Brenda and Tom Nelson, and Leader, Toni McQuaig and her husband Windle McQuaig. This event is very important and takes slot of planning and team wor k and as the leader I want to thank all of you that helped out. Also special thanks to Bonnie Hundley, and David Richmond, who are with the WVU Extension Service Office, for their help and support. We are having our end of the year cookout along with a trail ride at Betty Hendrick's Oct. 2. Betty is going to be one of our new volunteer leaders for next year. Anyone wanting to find out about joining our club, you don't have to own a horse! Please call Toni McQuaig. 466-0431. I own a small piece of river property on the New River Road in the New River Gorge. It is my propertyl I worked for it, I paid for it and I didn't steal it to get itl The National Park Service (NPS) has managed to quietly (?) confiscate 42,000 of the 60,000 acres in the New River Gorge! They brag the land was obtained either by donations, transfer from other public agencies or purchased from willing sellers. I have not donated my land to them and I am not a willing seller but my rights to be one are being denied me by the West Virginia Department of Highways ("other public agencies"?) The NPS propaganda will tell you their goal is to "open all the land to public use," (I suggest, a very "select" public who can afford $40/car load to enter some of their national parks, only to have an armed guard fine you or threaten to confiscate your boat, camera, car if you violate one of their rules!) Public use? Right! Wake up, public! It's my property they're after now, it could be yours tomorrow!! To the NPS: Please, don't smile at me while you're hiding behind the WVDOH's attempt to justify taking my riverside property. Insult someone's else's intelligence in West Virginia, don't insult mine!! rm from Ohio, I remember well what you did to the people in Cleveland's (OH) Cuyahoga Valley: A whole community wiped out and their homes burned for the NPS to take 32,000 acres there, wasn't it?
