HINTON JR. HIGH WINS
BATTLE OVER TALCOTT
Hinton Jr. High and Talcott
played an exciting basketball game
at Talcott Tues. night Sept. 28. The
Lady Pirates behind 9 first quarter
points from Michelle Palmer jumped
out to a 17-11 lead after one quarter.
This marked the first time Hinton
had trailed after one period. Hinton
kept their composure and fought
back in the second quarter as Erin
Dick scored 7 points and Laura Rol-
lyson scored 8 of her game high 29 to
help Hinton escape with a 28-26
lead at the half.
In the third quarter Hinton man-
aged to hold onto their lead, but it
wasn't until the 4th. quarter that
the tempo of the game and Talcott's
foul problems let the Bobcats put the
game away down the stretch. Laura
Rollysen was the game's leading
scorer with 29 points while Erin Dick
scored 16 points and pulled down 11
rebounds. Leslie Cyrus scored 3
points and added 11 rebounds for
the Bobcats and Joy Shaffer scored
n 4 points and came away with 4 steals.
Jamie Chambers scored 6 points
along with 5 rebounds and Meg
Ziegler rounded out Hinton's scor-
ing with 2 points. Hinton improved
to 8-0 with the victory.
Talcott was led in scoring by
Michelle Palmer with 22 points.
Valerie Hedrick and Christi Barker
added 6 points each for Talcott.
Rounding out the Pirates scoring
were Amy Eller and Andi Johnson
with 5 points each. Jennifer Rudisill
with 4, Jennifer Keatley with 2 and
Melissa Standard with I point.

HANDED FIRST LOSS
The Hinton Jr. Lady Bobcats had
their 8-0 record blemished Sept. 30
when Peterstown upset the Lady
Bobcats 38-37. Hinton turned in a
dismalperforrnawceard piayed
thout their characteristic passion.

defense with the dribble. Hinton also
turned the ball over 22 times in the
contest, most of which were unforced
turnovers. Despite all this Hinton
had their chances to steal an unde-
served victory but a missed shot at
the buzzer sealed the win for Peter-
stown.
The Pirates improve to 4-1 with
the win and were led by Joni Law
with 15 points and Cassie Miller
with 10 points. Hinton falls to 8-1
despite a game high 17 points from
Laura Rollyson. Leslie Cyrus led the
Bobcats in rebounding with nine and
scored 3 points. Rounding out
Hinten's scoring were Jamie Cham-
bers with 6, Erin Dick with 5, and
Joy Shaffer, Jessie Ziminerman and
Charlotte Mansfield with 2 points
each.

Hinton's 7th. & 8th. Grade trav-
eled to Summersville to take on the
Lady Bears. Despite a less than
impressive performance Hinton
came away with 49-36 victory. Erie
Dick led the way for the Bobcats
• scoring 17 points and pulling down
15 rebounds. Rachel Pack was also
in double figures with 11 points and
14 rebounds. Rounding out the Lady
Bobcats' scoring were Jamie Cham-
bers with 8 points, Julie Mullens
with 7 points, and Jennifer Richmond
with 4 points. Chambers also had 6
rebounds and 3 assists for Hinton
while Alisha Meadows came away
with 4 steals.

Hinton's 7th. & 8th. Grade Lady
Bobcats improved to a combined 8-1
with a 45-22 win over Talcott on
Sept. 28. The Lady Bobcats were led
by the play of Rachel Pack, Alisha
Meadows and Julie Mullens. Pack
scored 12 points, passed out 3 as-
sists and picked off 5 steals. Mead-
ows scored 12 points and pulled down
6 rebounds and Julie Mullens added
8 points and 5 rebounds for Hinton.
Rounding out Hinton's scoring were
Amy Richmond with 4 points, Jen-
nifer Richmond with 3, Julie Lighter,
Andrea Mansfield and Rachel
Eskridge with 2 points each. Talcott
was led in scoring by Jennifer Clay-
ton with 6 points.

BOBCATS WHIP SHADY
The 7th. & 8th. Grade Lady Bob-
catsimproved to a combined 7-1 with
40-13 thrashing of Shady Springs on
Sept. 27. Hinton jumped out to an
early led and never looked back
placing 8 players in the scoring col-
umn. Rachel Pack led lIinton in
scoring with 12 points while Julie
Mullens, Alisha Meadows and Julie
Lightner each scored 6 points. Jamie
Chambers added 4 points for Hinton
and Amy Richmond, Jennifer
Richmond and Andrea Mansfield all
scored 2 points. Rachel Pack led
Hinton in steals with 4 while Jen-
nifer Richmond dished out 3 assists
and Julie Mullens was the leading
rebounder with 10.

The 7th. & 8th. Grade Lady Bob-
cats now have a combined record of
12-1 after picking up a 37-20 win
over a good Eastern Greenbrier Team
on Oct. 5th. Hinton's Rachel Pack
scored a game high 21 points and
pulled down 16 rebounds to go along
with her 2 assists and 3 steals in
leading the Lady Bobcats to the vic-
tory. Julie Mullens added 7 points
and 7 rebounds for Hinton. Round-
ing out the scoring were Alisha

East 13-1 to grab a 25-11 halitime
lead. Hinton also controlled the third
quarter as Laura Rollyson scored 10
of her game high 28 points in this
quarter to give Hinton a 42-18 lead
going into the final quarter of play.
East failed to make arun at the Lady
Bobcats in the final quarter of play
as Hinton improved to 10-1 with the
victory. Hinten's Laura Rollyson
dished out 3 assists and picked off3
steals to go with her 28 points and
Erie Dick added 11 points and had a
team high 8 rebounds for Hinton.
Joy Shaffer added 4 points, 4 assists
and had 3 steals from her point guard
position while Jam is Chambers with
5 points and 3 assists and Leslie
Cyrus with 2 points rounded out
Hinton's score.

The Jr. High Lady Bobcats
downed previously unbeaten East-
ern Greenbrier Jr. High on Oct. 5 by
a score of 50-27. The first quarter
was played in spurts with Hinton
holding a slim 12-10 lead after one
period. The second quarter was piv-
otal as Hinton outscored Greenbrier

Hinton Jr. High improved their
record to 10-1 downing Gap Mills
Oct. 6 by a score of 51-33. Erie Dick
led the Lady Bobcats to the victory
scoring 19 points and pulling down
12 rebounds. Hinton's Laura Rol-
lyson added 18 points, 8 rebounds
and dished out 6 assists. While Jamie
Chambers scored 8 points and pulled
down 8 rebounds. Rounding out
Hinton's scoring were Joy Shaffer
with 5 points and Amy Richmond
with 1 point. Lori Walker led Gap
Mills in scoring with 16 points.

The Jr. High Lady Bobcats im-
proved to 11-1 by defeating Park Jr.
High on . 7 ly a score of 66-34.
Erin Dick led the way for the Lady
Bobcats scoring a game high 24
points and pulling down 10 rebounds
in only three quarters of play. Laura
Rollyson turned in another solid
performance scoring 20 points and
passing out 7 assists along with 7
rebounds. Hinton's Meg Ziegler also
played well scoring 8 points and
grabbing 10 rebounds in two quar-
ters of play. Rounding out the scor-
ing for Hinton were Jamie Chain-

HINTON JH FOOTBALL
Hinton JH won their Homecom-
ing game Wed. by beating Stratton
26-20. Hinton's record now stands at
4-1 with 3 games to play. Tim CaleB
scored all four touchdowns for Hie-
ton and Travis Pack intercepted a
pass from Stratton in their last drive
for the night to seal the victory.
Hinton will be offthis week and play
Shady Spring on Oct. 21.
HINTON HIGH GOLF
The Hinton Golf Team won the
Coalfield Golf Championship last
week. Seven Double-A teams were
in the championship. Hinton won
with a total of 332, 9 shots better
than the 2nd. place team. Leading
Hinton were Danny Dillon, Billy
Cole, Frankie Adkins and John Dil-
lon.
HINTON HIGH FOO'EBALL
The football team won game
number 2 for the year by beating
Sherman 7-6. The last Homecoming
game, for Hinton as it now stands,
was a great success with a large
crowd on hand to see the victory.
Jamar Ford played a great game,
gaining 100 yards and scoring
Hinton's touchdown. The touchdown
came in the First quarter of action
and Scott Jackson kicked the extra
point that ended up being the win-
ning point. Sherman came rightback
after Ford scored to pick up their
touchdown. The extra point try, to
tie up the game, failed when Senior
Shawn Conner broke through the
line andblocked the kickmaking the
hall fall short of the mark. No one
had any idea there would be no other
scores in the remaining three quar-
ters. Hinton keptlthe ball in

super defense to take the victory.

HINTON GOLF TEAM
Hinton Golf won again after the
Coalfield Golf Championship beat.

Danny Dillon again led the way with
a 38. Fellow Sophomore Bill Cole,
had a 39, Billy Rhodes 43 and Frankie
Adkins 44, after nine holes.
HINTON LADY BOBCATS
The number one team in Class AA
girl's basketball may change this
week with Hinton's loss to Raven-
swood by one point Fri. night in the
first round of the Buffalo Wayne
Invitational. The tournament placed
three of the top five teams in the
state, Hinton #1, Buffalo # 3, and
Ravenswood # 5, along with Tug
Valley in the week-end match ups.
Ravenswood beat Hinton 48-47 Fri.
and Buffalo 51-43 Sat. for the Cham-
pionship. Season records are Hinton
10-1, Buffalo 7-3 and Ravenswood 8-
2.
Hinton played two games before
making the trip Fri. to Buffalo
Wayne. Hinton beat Shady Spring
Mon. Night 80-47. Led by Senior
Jenny Mann with 27 points. Hinton
started slow in the 1st. half leading
by only 5 points, 30 to 25. The 2nd.
half was all Hinton outscoring Shady
50 to 22. Coach Roe Williams again
used his bench in the 1st. half and
Shady only used 5 players and the
fresh players wore down the Tigers.
Stephanie Meadows added 16 points
for Hinton and Patricia Sea had 11
points.
Hinton beat Woodrow Wilson
Thurs. 55-50. In a close contest the
whole game Hinton was led by Joetta
Cales with 18 points. Jenny Mann
also had 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Farrah Lilly led the team with 11
rebounds. Lori Sharer had six as-
sists and four steals.
Hinton lost to Ravenwsood Fri.
with two starters not making the
trip to Buffalo Wayne. The game
had Ravenswoodleading at the break
of each quarter and Hinton fell short
at the end of the game. Stephanie
Meadows had 21 points including 5
three point shots for Hinton. Joetta
Cales and Farrah Lilly each had 10
points. Patricia Sea 4 and Sharon
Yopp 2 were the only other scorers
for Hinton. Ravenswood made 20 of
28 foul shots and Hinton only 4 oil2.
