COMMUNITY SUPPORT
The Hinton Lions Club is asking
for the Communities support in
helping to provide those who need,
eye examinations or eye glasses.
The Hinton Lions have been
providing assistance for over 18
years and are asking community
organizations and businesses as well
as citizens for monetary donations
to continue providing help to those
in need in our community. As news
spreads of the help being provided,
requests are now outnumbering the
Lions Club's ability to help.
Once a request is received, the
individual's application is screened
to insure that other avenues of
assistance are pursued before the
Lions Club provides help.
Donations can be mailed to:
Club, Sight Assistance Program,
P.O. Box 1321, Hinton, WV 25951.
Checks should be made out to:
Hinton Lions Club.

Roy Cooper----------- House of
My friends, I am once again asking for your support
and vote in the upcoming election. It has been my
honor and privilege to have served in your seat in
the West Virginia House of Delegates for the past
four years. I would like to continue that service.
Currently I serve on the Education, Agriculture,
.Health, Homeland Security and Veterans
Committees. In addition, I am the Chairman of the
Agriculture and Rural Development interim
committee.
During the last session of the legislature I
introduced legislation that established start.and
stop points for each school year. That b ll recewed
overwhelming support both houses of the
legislature and was supported by both teacher
organizations. I also introduced legislation to Stop
using Smarter Balanced AssesSment tests due to
the excessive time that has to be scheduled to
administer the tests. Again, that bill received
overwhelming support in both houses. However,
due to lobbying by a member of the State Board
of Education, the governor vetoed both bills. I
intend to re-introduce that legislation next session
if possible. Hopefully a new governor w ll be more
responsive to the.,ntent of.the legislature.
Sometimes stopping certain leg slahon can be as
important as passing other legislation. The Charter
School Bill is an example of such a bill.. That bill
would have taken money from the public school
budget and started, separate Public Charter
Schools. When this b ll was ntroduced a group of
House Education members, led by Delegate
Ambler and myself, were successful getting it
pulled from the House Education Committee
agenda.
My Promise to you, if re-elected, is to continue to
be responsive to your concerns, and to keep you
up to date on what going on the legislature.
The seat I am in belongs to you, the citizens of
the 28th District, and I will not forget that.
Thanks for you support during my four years in
the House and I would appreciate your vote in
November.
Roy Cooper, 28th District
