Sept. 27, at 11:15 a.m., in a Hinton hospital, following a long illness. Born June 29, 1915, at Hinton, she was the daughter of the late Meredith Price and Hattie Frances Plumley Bennett. Mrs. Adkins was a lifelong resi- - dent of Hinton, was a former era- : ployee of the Old Hinton Hospital : and attended the Hinton Gospel " Tabernacle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Basil Adldns on Aug. 24, 1979; a son, Sonny Graham on June 12, 1987 and a daughter, Geraldine Wills on Mar. 21, 1987. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Gilbert (Mary) Petrey of Hin- ton; two sisters, Nerma Graham of Rupert and Hattie Sears of Hinton; eight grandchildren, and eight great- grandchildren. Services were held Sat. Sept. 29 at 11 a.m. at the Hinton Gospel Tabernacle with the Rev. Lawrence Bennett officiating. Burial followed in the Upland Cemetery near Hin- ton. The body was at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors in Hinton and at the church one hour prior to the services. FRANK W. BENNETT SR. Frank W. Bennett, Sr., 74, of Shady Spring, died Sun. Sept. 23 at 5:47 p.m., in a Becldey hospital, fol- lowing a long illness. Born Mar. 2, 1914, in Summers County, he was the son of the late William Asa and Lena Ruth Cochran Bennett. Mr. Bennett was a retired coal miner and attended the Little B] uestone Primitive Baptist Church at Jumping Branch. He was preceded in death by a sister, Elsie Richmond and a brother, Lo~ain Bennett. Survivorsinciude his wife, Maude Richmond Bennett at home; a son, Frank W. Bennett, Jr. of Shady Spring; two daughters, Lois Bennett Jolly of Shady Spring and Linda L. Bragg of Shady Spring; three broth- ers, Robert Bennett of Oberlin, Oh., Oris Bennett of Medina, Oh., and John Bennett of Daniels; 10 grand- children: Michael Jolly, Terry Jolly, Tina Bragg, Shane Bragg, Debra Webb, Rebecca Moore, Timothy Bennett, Kimberly Bennett, Mark Bennett and Sheri Senna; and five great-grandchildren. Services were held Thurs. Sept. 27 at I p.m. at the Rose and Quesen- berry Peace Chapel with Elder A.L. Neely officiating. Burial followed in the Cochran Cemetery at Jumping Branch. The body was at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home in Beck- ley. Pallbearers were grandchildren and friends. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Douglas, Clarence Bragg, Gilbert Waddell, Rhso Ben- nett, Billy Pack, Ray Richmond and Buren Ransom. BONNIE L. BROWN Mrs. Bonnie Louise Brown, 87, died Sat. Sept. 29, in a Hinton care center, following a long illness. Born June 6, 1903, at Landgraff, she was the daughter ofthelate.4_C. and Lutricia Graham Brown. Mrs. Brown was a former piano teacher in Mercer County for many eyars and a former member of the Kee Street United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore R. Brown and a half sister, Mamie Martin. Survivors include nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be Tues. at I p.m. at the Oakwood Cemetery in Princeton with the Rev. Johnnie Atkinson offidating. Friends may call Tues. from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Director on the Athens Road in Princeton. Those wishing to attend the gravesids services are asked to meet Tues. at 12:30 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton. JOHN H. BURNETT John Henry Burnett, 70, died Sat." Sept. 29, at 7 a.m., in a Beckley medical center, following a long ill- ness. Bern Sept. 14, 1920, in Fayette County, he was the son of the late Noah L. and Sarah Herman Burnett. Mr. Burnett had lived most of his life in Hinton, was a member of the Elk Knob Baptist Church, was a World War II veteran and was a retired employee of the C & O Rail- way Company. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Burnett and a brother, Fred Burnett. Survivors include his wife, Made- line Grimmett Burnett; five daugh- ters, Mrs. Arthur (Joann) Bennett of Covington, Va., Lou Ellen Bragg of Hinton, Mrs. Ronald (Mary Jane) Mills of Lancaster, Ohio, Mrs. Wil- lard (Brenda) Meadows of Forest Hill and Kathy Painter of Oak Hill; four brothers, Frank and Layphual Burnett, both of Toledo, Ohio, Orval Burnett of Shady Spring and Melvin Grimmett of Judson; three sisters, Hattie Painter of Meadow Bridge, Marie Coleman of Alderson and Della Mac Cobley of Toledo, Ohio; ten grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. Services were held Mon. at 11 a.m. at the Ronald Meadows Fu- neral Chapel in Hinton with the Revs. Bill Jenkins and Carl Spade officiating. Burial followed in the Elk Knob Church Cemetery. The body was at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlor in Hinton. ETHEL MAE FARLEY Ethel Mac Farley, 73, died Thurs. Sept. 27, in a Princeton hospital,following a long illness. Born May 8, 1917, at Hinton, she was the daughter of the late Percy C. and Willie Hedrick Shepard. Mrs. Farley was a homemaker and a member of the Cashmere Baptist Church at Cashmere. She was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Shepard and a brother, Oscar Shepard. Survivors include her husband, Burnice (B.D.) Farley; a daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Libby) Frances of Peterstown; a brother, Robert Shepherd of Holmes, N.Y.; two sis- ters, Laura Sue Briers and Ella Jean Lively, both of Ballard; two step- brothers, Carl Barton of Lerona and Quinn Barton of Thompson Station, Tenn.; two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Services were held Sat. Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. at the Broyles Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown with the Revs. Bill Sampson and Silas Gore officiating. Burial followed in the Orchard Cemetery at Ballard. The body was at the Broyles Funeral Home in Peterstown. JEWELL IL FOX FLESHMAN Mrs. Jewell IC Fox Fleehman, 51, of 314 8th Ave., was pronounced death on arrival, Sat. Sept. 29 at a Summers County Hospital, accord- ing to the Summers County Sheriffs Department. Born Aug. 16, 1939, at Montgom- ery, she was the daughter of Ray- mond and Bernice Morgan Fox of Sandstone. Mrs. Flsshman was a lifelong resident of Summers County, at- tended the First Baptist Church in Hinton, was a counselor of the AWANA Club, was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and was a member of the Women of the Moose. Other survivors include her hus- band, Bob Fleshman; five sons, Alan and Van, both of Hinton, Mark Flesh- man at home, Gary Fleehman of Hendersonville, Tenn., David Flesh- man of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a sister, Geneva Fox of Beckley; two grandchildren and a niece, Kathy Bowles of Jumping Branch. Services will be Tues. at 2 p.m. at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with the ROy. D.D. Elwell officiating. Burial will be in the Wallace Memorial Park at Clin- tonville. The body was at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Home in Hinton. BUELAH M. MASSIE Mrs. Beulah Maybell Williams @ Tues. Oct. 2, 1990 Hinton News - 3 Massie, 64, of Route 1, died Tues. Sept. 25, at her home, following a long illness. Born Sept. 12, 1926, at Hinton, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Grace Whittaker Wil- liams. Mrs. Massie was a homemaker and a member of the Calvary Bap- tist Church at Oak Hill. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl C. Massie; a son, William Earl Massie and a brother, Robert Williams. Survivorsinclude her stepmother, Emma Williams Lewis of Hinton; a son, Clifford MaJmie of Oak Hill; two daughters, Rita McClung of Oak Hill and Sarah Willouhby of Route 1, Fayetteville; a brother, Howard Williams of Baltimore, Md.; a sister, Lillian McBride of Baltimore, and nine grandchildren. Services were held Thurs. Sept. 27 at 2:30 p.m. at the Calvary Bap- tist Church in Oak Hill with the Revs. Houston Boothe and Jack Barker officiating. Entombment was in the High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum at Oak Hill. The body was at the Tyree Fu- neral Home in Oak Hill and at the church one hour prior to the serv- ices. MURIEL F. MILLER Mrs. Muriel Florence Miller, 86, died Mon. Sept. 24, at a Fairlea hospital, following a short illness. Born Mar. 23, 1904, at Talcott, she was the daughter of the late John and Roxie Meadows Canter- bury. Mrs. Miller was a homemaker an d a member of the Clayton Baptist Church at Clayton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Miller on Dec. 31, 1989 and a son, Hugh Miller on June 26, 1990. Survivors include a son, Haven L. Miller of Ogden, Utah; six grand- children, and five great-grandchil- dren. Services were held Thurs. Sept. 27 at 3 p.m. at the Clayton Baptist Church with the Rovs. John Walker and Roger Persinger officiating. Burial followed in the Clayton Cemetery. The body was at the Lobban Funeral Home in Alderson. Grandsons served as pallbearers. SARAH P,. MEADOWS Miss Sarah Rebecca Richmond, 79, of Jumping Branch, died Sun. Sept. 23 at 2:15 p.m., in a Summers County hospital, following a long illness. Born Nov. 27, 1910, at Elgood, she was the daughter of the late James William and Melissa Hazel- wood Meadows. Miss Meadows had lived most of her life at Jumping Branch. She was preceded in death by a brother, Benjamin Meadows. Survivors include a sister, Florence Meadows of Jumping Branch. Services were held Wed. Sept. 26 at 11 a.m. at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Chapel in Hinton with the Rev. Elmo Alderman officiating. Burial followed in the Meadows Cemetery at the home place. The body was at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Paul and Hil- bert Bennett, Billy St. Clair, E.B. Neely, Ruehl Meadows, Luther Basham, Jacob Arthur, Doc Hatcher and Quinton Cooper. CAROLYN WARD RATLIFF Carolyn Ward Ratliff, 51 of Cov- ington, Va. died Sun. Sept. 30 at 12:40 pm in the Alleghany Regional Hospital in LowMoor following a long illness. Born July 5, 1939 in Hinton, she was the daughter of Evangeline Williams of Shady Spring and the late Arnold Francis Ward of Hunt- ington. Mrs. Ratliff has lived in Coving- ton the past thirty years. She was a member of the Covington Baptist Church and a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Garnet B. (Buck) Ratliff Jr.; two sons, Aaron Wayne of Roanoke and Garnet B. (Chuck) Ill of Covington; one daughter, Kimberly Lynn at home; one brother, Bob Arthur of Mississippi; and three grandsons. Services will be held Wed. at 2 p.m. at the Covington Baptist Church in Covington. Friends may call Tues. from 7pro to 8:30 pm at the Arritt Funeral Home in Covington. , !
