and all students entering school for
the first time in West Virginia.
Patents will be notified if the
screening indicates their child needs
follow-up services.
Any parent who does not want
his/her child to receive the screening
tests must notify the school principal
in writing prior to: September 15,
1999.

Army National Guard Pvt. Jason
W. Cottle has entered the basic
railitary training under the split-
option program at Fort Knox, KY.
Upon graduating from basic
training, the student will be a
member of the Army National Guard
or Reserve.
The program allows students
between their junior and senior year
of high school to attend national
guard or reserve weekend drills
while sti!l in school and pursue a
military career specialty after they
graduate from high school.
During training, the recruit will
receive instruction in drill and
ceremonies, weapons, map reading,
tactics, military courtesy, military
justice, physical fitness, first aid,
and Army history, values and
traditions.
Cottle is the son of Barbara
Thompson of Rural Route 1, Hinton.
: He is a student at Summers
County High School, Hinton.

FAMILY REUNION
The descendants of the late
Summers and Lou Jane Forren
Gwinn held their second family
reunion on July 23rd. and 24th. Six
of their seven children, Paul,
Winnie, Janice, Jimmy, Minnie, and
George were present. Jesse of
Coconut Creek, FL did not attend.
Twelve grandchildren, sixteen great
grandchildren, two great-great
grandchildren and five guests
attended the gathering on Saturday
at the home of Minnie Vandall in
Robin Roost Subdivision at Nimitz.
Fifty three persons enjoyed a day of
games, visiting and delicious food.
Prizes awarded were to: Paul Gwinn
oldest; Abigail G,vinn, youngest and
Jimmy Gwinn for traveling longest
distance.

The Old Log Meeting House on
River Ridge at Pipestem, Summers
County, will host it's annul
celebration and homecoming at
11:00 a. m• Sunday September 12th.
This annual event marks the
gathering of the descendants of
River Ridge's early settlers, which
were the Farleys, Cooks, Keatons,
Petreys, Laness, Martins, Millers
and others.
The Old Church is 122 years old
and was used as a church school and
meeting house by all who lived on
this five mile ridge between New
River on the east and Pipestem
Creek on the west.
Rev. Kenneth Boonie Martin, of
Greenup, Ky., will be the morning
speaker. There will be special
singing.
Everyone is invited to come and
bring a basket lunch and spend the
day meeting old friends and make
new friends at this historical
meeting house.
UNITY CHURCH
Pastor Dennis Medley will be
holding services each Sunday and
Monday at 7:00 p. m. at Summers
County Memorial Bldg.
