Jackson Day Dinner.
In addition to Farley, Outstand-
ing Democrats from West Virginia's
other counties were honored at the
Dinner, held at the Charleston Civic
Center on Aug. 11. According to Left
Moore, Chairman of the Putnam
County Democratic Executive Com-
mittee and Coordinator of the Fifth
Annual Democrat Awards, honorees
were selected who had distinguished
themselves by extraordinary work
for their local political parties. He
indicated that the honorees had, as
individuals, "demonstrated their
support for the philosophy and ide-
als of the Democratic Party" and
noted that they were recognized and
honored for their service and hard
work on behalf of the Democrat
Party. =Elections are the cornerstone
of our Democracy," Moore said, "and
Mrs. Farley is one of the keystones of
the election process."
Each of the honorees, after being
introduced to the hundreds of Party
leaders from throughout W. Va., was
photographed with his or her Con-
gressman, Senator Rockefeller and
Governor Gaston Caperton in honor
of the event. Governor Caperton
spoke of the honorees in glowing
terms and pointed out that he would
not be governor today if it were not
for the efforts of Party faithful like
those honored at the Dinner.
The selection of Farley was an-
nounced to state leaders by Sum-
mers County Democratic Party offi-
cials, whom Moore said were lavish
in their praise for Mrs. Farley."These
