Commander Warren L. Holbert Naval Takes Command Recruiting ict Navy Commander Warren L; Holbert, sen of the late Dutch" and Ora Holbert of Hinton, relieved Commander Troy E. Simpson as command- ing officer of Navy Recruiting District (NRD) Memphis in ceremonies held recently in Memphis. NRD Memphis, which corn- prises, o,,ore than 25 recruiting statioi~, is responsibile for Navy recruiting in Mississippi, western Tennessee and Kentucky, northeast Arkansas, the Missouri bootheel and the southern tip of Illinois. Commander Holbert came to recruiting from Milton, Fla., where he served as command- ing officer of Training Squad- ron TWO at Naval Air Station Whiting Field. A graduate of Hinton High School and West Virginia In- sitiute of Technolocy, Com- mander Holbert reported to flight training in Pensacola, Fla., in 1964. He was designated a naval flight officer in Dec- was ordered to Toledo, Ohio, as officer - in - clmrge of the Toledo Recruiting "A" Station. While in recruiting duty, he also attended the University of Toledo, earning an MBA degree in Human Resource Manage- ment in 1975. Commander Holbert next re- ported to the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal in 1975 as the communications officer. This tour included a Mediterranean deployment and participation in the international Naval Re- view and Bicentennial celebrat- ion in New York Harbor in July 1975. Commander Holbort then reported to Patrol Squadron 56 at Naval Air Station Jackson- ville, Fla., where he served as operations officer. While with Patrol Squadron 56, Command- er Holbert made deployments to Iceland and Bermuda. Following a period of tem- porary duty as training officer for Commander, Patrol Wing 11 in Jacksonville, Commander Holbert attended the Air War ember 1965 and a naval aviator College at Maxwell Air Force in 1968. Base in Montgomery, ~a. He Commander Holbert's first-~ next reportedfor:a ~ per- operational tour was flying the C - 130 Hercules aircraft with Transport Squadron THREE at MeGuire Air Force Base, N. J. That tour included numerous deployments to southeast Asis in support of operations in Sohth Vietnam. After receiving his designat- ion aS a naval aviator, he reported to Patrol Squadron 16, flying the P - 3A Orion air- craft. That tour included de- ployments to Sicily, Bermuda and South America. In 1972 he iod of temporary duty with Training Air Wing FIVE at Naval Air Station Whiting Field, subsequently reporting to Training Squadron TWO as executive officer in April 1982. He assumed command of Training Squadron TWO on April 15, 1983. Commander Holbert, his wife, the former Ann Brown of Belle, W. Va., and their four children are residing in Ger- mantown, Tenn. D.A. The meeting was called to order by the Commander Ir- ene Lilly. The Chaplin Garnett Mead- ows had the prayer. The patroic Instructor, Hazel Lilly led in the pledge to the' flag. The minutes were read by the Adjuntant Virginia Lilly and approved. The treasurer Geneva Sowder gave her report and was approved. New and old business was transacted and approved.
