Marie Friendship Club Meets at Ruritan Building !i The Marie Friendship Club held its monthly meeting on August 2nd., at the Ruritan building in Marie. Members of the Ruritan Club joined the Friendship Club for a delicious summer dinner. After dinner both clubs held separate abbreviated meetings, but rejoined for the program. Friendship Club member, Elizabeth Upton, and her husband John Donnelly, Ruritan member, presented a program on life in St. Croix, in the U. S. Virgin Islands. John and Elizabeth had vacationed for many years in St. Croix, and then lived there from 1996-1998. The program included information on the geography, history, and culture of St. Croix, as MEETING Alcoholics Anonymous meetings Tues., Thurs. and Sat. at 8:00 P.M. at Ascension Episcopal Church, corner of 5th. and Temple Street• well as Elizabeth's and Johns's experience of living there. John told of the wonderful sailing, and Elizabeth talked about the wonderful weather and natural beauty of the island. Afterwards they showed a short video of the U. S . Virgin Islands and answered questions. Coincidentally, John and Elizabeth had friends from St. Croix, Becky and Joe Perzan, who were visiting, and who also answered questions about island living. The next dinner meeting of the Friendship and Ruritan Clubs will be held at 7:00 p. m. on September 13th., rather than the usual first Monday of the month. Mr, Jeue R. O'Bryan Ms. Debra K. Summers County Teen Miss Pageant Winners Announced The Summers County Teen Miss Up was Kristin Ward, the 14 year Miss Ambassador Award was Pageant was held on June 19th., at old daughter of Grady and Virginia presented to Sara Gwinn, daughter ......... Kari Standard, daughter of Pageantry Night), The Main Event, Summers County Teen Miss by James and Josephine Standard was was the theme of the pageant, LauraKirkham, the 1998Summers presented the Miss Spirit Award sponsored by the Bobcat (voted on by all contestants). The Peyton Camp Meeting Boosterettes. These young ladies nominated by Summers County school teachers and counselors participated in the pageant and were judged on an Interview, Casual Wear and Evening Gown Competitions. The opening performance, "Jock Jams - It's Awesome, Baby!", choreographed by Jill Williams, was presented by these contestants.
