Fall is right around the corner and the Librarians are ready to fall
over after such a busy summer!
We kicked off our 2016 summer reading program entitled "On your
mark, get set, READ!" on June 4th by racing boats we made using pool
noodles at the Library. Each participant received a folder that included
a reading log, calendar of events, and special event info. For the second
consecutive year we encouraged adults to register as well as children of
all ages.
We held story times at Jumping Branch Elementary, Pipestem Nature
Center, Hedrick Hous~arraY~t~t~tbf~r?~c~ i~p~r~zits~d~in the
hbrary. We had several sp~n~ like Reading with Wilhe the P..hfi$,
Fort Night, Teen: Netflix Night. ~h~d Adplt Coloring. Six weeks later we
had a final celebration picnic at the Freight Depot. Wd challenged the
attendees to a Water Balloon Battle: Kids vs. Adults. The adults lost.
A total of 63 students and 10 adults registered. All together they read
over 500 books! (This estimate is based on the number of reading logs
we received). June also marked the retirement of Myra Ziegler - yes,
you read that right. Myra has left the building! But don't panic - her
replacement, Austin Persinger, is doing a fantastic job as the new
librarian. Stop by the Library on Saturday, August 27th. between 2 and
5 p.m. to shy good-bye to Myra and wish the Library a happy 39th
birthday.
We blinked; suddenly June was long gone and August was here. The
Library was filled with beautiful art work during the Water Festival - a
~otal of 58 pieces were entered into our Art Show. Now the summer is
winding down - but certainly not cooling offi - and we're looking forward
to all of the students from HAE, JBE and Talcott visiting the Library
and Bookmobile.
And speaking of Bookmobile with Austin running the Library, we
needed a new driver for Bertha the Bookmobile. So be prepared to see a
new face - specifically the face of Margaret Ramsey - chugging through
the town.
Keep an eye out for all the exciting things we have planned this fall -
Talk like a Pirate Day, Story Times, and an Adult Coloring Club[
