The final day for reporting on books for the Summer reading
program was last Friday We've been busy counting up the
number of books read and tallying the votes ( the children were
asked to vote on where they wanted the final party and awards
ceremony to be) Early results indicate that the party will take
place in the park below the Bluestone Dam. It will begin at 2:00
PM Friday August 24th. ( If the weather is uncooperat-
ive we may move ourselves back to the Library) - Call us if there
any questions about it.
We've received quite a few interesting books this past week
Among the new arrivals was Leon Uris' The llaj, it's on the best
seller list and has a waiting list of it's own. Another best seller just
in is Frank Herbert's Heretics of Dune. Not on any best seller
lists but sure to be popular anyway are Joan Didion's Demeeracy
and Catherine Cookson The Black Velvet Gown. Along with all of
the above we have quite a few "new" ( to us) old books -a slo
enticing for these who haven't read them before. These include:
Harriette Arnow: Hunter's Hera
Talyer Caldwelh TenderVlctery
John Fowles: The Ebony Tower
Norah Lefts: Lovers All Untrue
and How Far to Bethlehem?
Dell Shannon: Coffin Corner
Tales of Edgar Allan Poe by the master himself, of course.
Other new arrivals include a serious biography of Row
aid Reagan called Reagan Inside Out and an hiliarious one by
Art Buchwald called White Reagan Slept. We also have new
copies of Granville' Deity's Mountain Memerles; True and Folk
Tales of the West virg~lalaHilis and Mmmtain Memories ll as
well as the Best of the ' Hillbilly'.
The Friends of the Library met Monday to firm up plans fer •
their upcoming fund raiser. It won't take place until October and
it sounds as if it's going to be fantastic ! : as usual).

Multiple Sclerosis is one of
the most common diseases aff-
ecting the nervous system.
Multiple Sclerosis and closely
related neurological diseases
affect 50o,000 people in this
country today.
Multiple Sclerosis most often
affects the brain and spinal
cord. It attacks the myelin
sheath, the coating or insulat-
ion around the nerve fibers. So,
when the messages are sent out
from the brain, they cannot get
through.
