TALCOTT APRIL STUDNETS OF THE MONTH Talcott Elementary School principal, Gaye Shaver, proudly announces the selection of the Students of the Month for April. Second grader, Bradley Richmond, was chosen to represent grades K-2 and third gradeAdrieane €,lawas  honored with the 3-5 grade selection. Each teache" nominates a students each month to be recognized for academic achievement, good citizenship, outstanding behavior or noted improvement in a specific area. These nominations are presented to a committee of teachers along with a report of each student's achievement. The committee then selects one student from grades K-2 and one student from grades 3-5 each month. Students nominated for the month of April were: Mrs. Fleshman's kindergarten. Scholarship Awards Help Local Students Concord College has announced several scholarship recipients for the 1999-2000 academic year. The following students are among those who have earned recognition: Kristen Holland has been awarded the Ruritan Foundation Matching Scholarship, Director's , Scholarship, and the Girl's State Scholarship. Kristen is a 1999 graduate from Summers County High School where she participated in Bible Club. Her awards include membership in the National Honor Society, and Girl's State 1998. Kristen is the daughter of Mary Luckton who resides at Nimitz. Concord accepts applications for scholarships until all funds are expanded. Call the admissions Office at 1-888-384-5249 for more information. Servicemen In The News Army Reserve Pvt. Richard A. Johnson has entered basic military training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During the eight weeks of training, the soldier will study the Army mission and will receive instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, Army history and traditions, and special training in human relations. Johnson is the son of Rick A. and Terry M. Johnson of Talcott. He is a 1999 graduate of Summer County High School, Hinton. Men's Health Fair Scheduled at WVSOM The West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine will hold its annual Men's Health Screening on Saturday, August 28th., on the first floor of t.he old WVSOM clinic. Several free services will be offered, including testing for prostate, testicular, and colon cancer. Prostate screenings also includes a free blood test. Patients will be seen by second- year medical students as well as a physician. Any detected problems will be reported to the patient and referred,to I'M,family physician. We are hoping that more will come that went to any of tlie old one room schools. We all played ball together and had the same teacher from time to time.
