nied by her son and daughter-in-
law, Chester and Janet Cochran o!
Toledo, Oh., have just returned from
a tour through the Western States to
the Grand Canyon, Arizona.
They visited 14 states and drove
4,321 miles,
They took pictures, collected sou-
venirs, and had e. wonderful trip.
Melvin E. Alien
Promoted To The
Rank Of Captain
Melvin E. Allen, son of Gene and
Margie Allen of Talcott, W.Va., has
been promoted in the U.S. Air Force
to the rank of Captain.
Allen is an operations officer with
the 475th Security Police Squadron.
His wife, Rbonda, is the daughter
of Hallie Sims of Ballengee, W.Va.
He is a 1974 graduate of Taloott
High School, ands 1982 graduate of
Concord College, Athens, W.Va.
Melvin has md eight years in
the U.S. Armed Forces, and is now
stationed at Yakota Air Base in
Japan.
Inducted Into
Gamma Beta Phi
Miehelle Leigh Williams, daugh-
Wr of Mr. Donald E. Williams, of
Hinton, was inducted into Gamma
Beta Phi, a national honor and serv-
ice organization, during a ceremony
in the College' Center Ballroom at
Concord College on Apr. 29th.
The newly-inducted students were
congratulated by Lya Cartwright,
president of the organigation.
To be selected for membership in
the society, a student must be in the
top 20 percent ofhidher class and be
committed to excellence in educa-
tion, to good character, and to serv-
ice.
Gamma Beta Phi members are
active in service to education. Re-
cent Concord College chapter proj.
sets have included a StaffApprecia-
lion Day, the Concord College phone-
a-then, the State Adopt-a.Highway
Program, and collecting money for
the Ronald McDonald House in
Charleston, W.Va.
