Arson Suspected In Two
At least two recent fire in Summers County were
probably arson according to fire department
officials. In the above photo the burn pattern left
by a small fire in a home on Rt. 20 near Jones
Marina. No one was at home when the fire broke
out, but neighbors quickly extinguished the fire.
The Summers County Volunteer Fire Depart.
ment arrived on the scene a few minutes later
and notified State Police of the suspicious nature
of the fire. Trooper C.M Mace is investigating.

Fort Pierce , one daughter,

Akron, Ohio; one sister, Mrs.
Bill (Arlien) Ratliff of Belle-
point ; one step<laughter Caron
Cassity Bennett of Fort
Pierce; three grandchildren
and two step- grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held
Wednesday August 8th at 2 o'
clock in Fort Pierce at the
Haisley-Hobbs Funeral home
with Roy. David Goins in
charge. Burial will be in Fort
Pierce.

Mr. Butler was pronounced
dead on arrival at a Hinton
hospital Sunday morning after a
short fliness•
Born Sept. 5, 1902, in Sum-
mers County, he was a son of
the late Newton and Mary Th-
ompson Butler.
Survivors include his wife,
Willie Butler of Flint, Mich
.; three daughters, Ms. Nova
Reed of Meadow Creek, Mrs.
Garnet ( Mary Ann) McMana-
way of Pipestem and Mrs. Cl-
yde (Rosa) Keaton of Blacks-
burg, Vs.; three sisters, Mrs.
Jesie B. Eskew of Athens, Mrs.
Beamer Hicks of Hinton and
Mrs. Elizabeth Brown of Fair-
field, Ohio; nine grandchildren
and one great- granddaughter.
The family will receive fr-
iends from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday.
WOOD
Services for Mr. Larry How-
ard Wood, 71, will be at 2 p.m.
Tuesday in the E.M. Meadows
Funeral Home in Hinton with
the Revs. James Simms, Bill
Fox and Bruce Richmond off-
iciating. Burial will be in the
Mount Zion Baptist Church
Cemetery.
Mr, Wood died Sunday in
Hinton hospital after a long
illness.
Born Oct. 30, 1907, in Bertha,
he was a son of the late Leon-
adis and Berta Foster Wood.
He was a retired engineer for
the Chesapeake and Ohio Rail.

the Four.Mile Raptist Church
and the Hinton Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife,
Evelyn C. Wood; one daughter,
Mrs, Virignis Pack of Laneaa-
ter, Ohio; two brotherz, Lacy of
Buck RoUte, Hlnton and John of
Hinton; two grandsons and one
great granddaughter.
Friends may call form 5 to 9,
Monday.
A fire Thursday night at Bragg's Peel Hall at
Hix. The "low burn" pattern shown in the photo
shows where the fire started and other evidence
was discovered that indicated arson. SCVFD
also answered that call and quickly extinguished
two small fires in the building. Damage was
estimated at $100. Mace and Sgt. J.W. Jeffries of
the Sheriff's Department were called to the
scene.

way musical "Guys and .Dolls"

Valley Theatre, an outstanding
group from Lewisburg.
All events will be presented
in the amphitheatro unless for-
cod to go indoors due to incle-

Theatre's "John Henry" that
will start at 8 p.m.
Sunday, Flagherty Brothers
from Charleston will start the
week's entertainment program
with their Country Rock prog-

Pipestem" to acquaint guests in
the park with the many act-
ivities available.
"Guys and Dolls" Tuesday
are most professional.

Guys and Dolls" on the Broad-
way stage or the movie ver-
sion should make a special eff-
ort to see this great play.
"John Henry", a musical ver-
sion of John Henry, the man
who helped build Big Bend
Tunnel for the C&O Railway, is
in it's second successful season,
and will be presented Wednes-
day night.
Thursday there will be a free
movie "Smokey and the Bandit,
and Saturday, the Paul Sky-
land Band from Parkersburg
will present a program of
mellow rock. This group comes
highly recommended.
