Jason hit three Jessie Miller, of the Hinton All-Star slides into 3rd. base safely as Coach Fred Mock and team- HINTON LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL The Hinton Little League 12-year old all-stars became the Area IV champions by defeating Peterstown 3-2 on July 12. The District 4 cham- pionship was tobe decided from July 15 - 20 in Hinton. In Hinton's bid to accomplish the championship for istrict 4 and to move into the state tournament, the team would have to' win four straight games. Hinton defeated their first three opponents, Lewisburg 6-4 and Oak Hill 3-0. The Hinton All-Star would have to play Oak Hill one final game to complete the series. Oak Hill de- feated Hinton 10-8in this final game and moved on to Bridgeport for the state competition. The All-stars had a record of' 7 wins and 2 losses and were led by pitching sensations Brian Cooper, Derek Gwinn and Matt Durnan. Their power from the plate came from Jason Meadows, Derek Mann and Tim Erenberg. Their fielding achievements came from Jessie Miller, Brett Crowder, and Mark Ca]es. The team from Hi nton is made up of several eleven year-olds that will be back next year to continue the goal of bringJ n g back the distri ct championship. GOLF TOURNAMENT The Mary Meagher Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at Valley View Country Clubin White Sulphur Springs on Sat., Aug, 7. This eight- een-hole Captain's Choice Tourna- ment will kick off at 9".00 a.m. with a shotgun start. The entry fee is $120.00 per four person team; a 40 handicap or more per team total (USGA HANDICAP) and no more than two single digit handicap per team. $400.00 cash will be awarded to the first place winning team and prizes will be awarded to the second and third place winning teams as well as prizes to the winning golfer of the longest drive contest and the closest to the pin contest. This tournament is under the sponsorship of the Women's Organi- zation of Valley View Country Club with all proceeds going to Valley View Country Club.
