July 31 will be the last day for children to return and report on
books for hi• year8 summer reading contest. Starting Aug. I we will
begin counting up the number of book• every one has read - and
,) there have been some outstanding young readers this year - and
will tally our winners. We will also be sending invitation~ to all
these who are eligible for our reading contest party. This year' party
will be Aug. 7th fi~m 2 - 4 PM at the Waterslide in Hinton. So watch
your mailbox for your invitation and read! read! readl
Perhaps it has been because of all those enthusiastic readers
i competing for our prizes and perhaps it i• our wonderful alrcondi-
tioning that i• attractin_g so many folks. But whatever the reasons
the Library has ( as usual) been busy this summer - checkingout as
many as 300 books a day, helping the summer visitors search
genealogy files and find their way around Summers County and
trying to finish up all the form• and reports due now that our fiscal
year ]me endedl
We do have •me new books in including Danielle Steel'• newest
Mesamm from Nam ( there'• a waiting list for this one) and Louim
L'Amour'• The Outlaws of Mseouite a collection of short stories by
the mm~r western writer never before published.
New on our memorial •helves are The Dictionary of 20th Cen-
~IXJ~iaId~given in memory of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Fredsking. This
volume is full of information about events and characters that have
been important from the turn of the 20th century " right up to
today'• headlines" and should be a VERY valuable reference aid
particularly for our student researchers when report time rolls
around. In the children'• section we have received the 1990
Caldscott wirmJng ],~'l l~gp, oj|iven in memory ofMr. Travi• O'Bryan
by Elizabeth Coffin and the Clark Middle High School. We want to
thank these people who have chosen to remember friends and loved
ones with a gift to the Library. These lovely books will be used and
appreciated by many people for many years to come! Don't forget:
Story Hour for 3, 4, and 5 year old• will resume Aug. I at 10:30
here in the Library. & The Friends ofthe Library are hosting an Art
• Exhibit during the week of the Water Festival.
