Maritza Cerrud and Charles Randy Ward announce the birth of Charles Abraham Ward. Abraham was born March 12, 1999 and weighed 7 lbs. 14 oz. He was born in Warner Robins, Georgia. Abraham is the grandson of Aretha A. Ward of Pipestem and the greet-- grandson of Faye Jolliffe of Hinton. He also is the grandson of Leonida and Pedro Cerrud of Panama. Brian Grimmett Celebrates Birthday Brian Grimmett, celebrates his 25th. birthday on June 24th. He received several cards, and three birthday cakes. Byrd Scholastic Recognition Awards are presented annually to the valedictorians of each of West Virginia's public, private, and parochial high schools, and the West Virginia Schools for the Deaf and Blind. The award  which Byrd has presented to 8,471 scholars since he started the program in 1969 -- is accompanied by a $50 U. S. Savings Bond. The program is financed through a trust fund established by Byrd, who has presented mere than $194,000 in awards since the project II I began. "I am pleased to recognize the successes of West Virginia's 1999 valedictorians. Their accomplishments are impressive and deserving of the Byrd Scholastic Recognition Award," Byrd said. Byrd also authored and secured Congressional approval of the Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program, a federal initiative that awards college scholarships, based on academic achievement, to high school graduates throughout the nation. Secondary School Activities Commission and RESA-I will be sponsoring a class for any non-teaching personnel wanting to be certified to coach in any public school in West Virginia. The class will be on July 7-8, 1999 and will be taught at the Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, West Virginia. The class will be conducted from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm on Wednesday and Thursday nights. The course fee is $125.00 and the instructors will be Robert Gunter and John O'Neal. Larry Hatfield will be the First-Aid instructor. The class will certify the participants to coach in public school and also be certified in First Aid. DISABILITIES SUPPORT GROUP The Summers County Starting Points Program is sponsoring a support group for families and caregivers of children with disabilities. Meetings will be held the second Tuesday of each month at the Family Resource Center, 411 Temple Street, Hinton, from 6:00 PM-7:00 PM. The 1999 Mount Olivet Camp meeting will begin Friday evening July 23rd. and will continue through Friday evening July 30th. The main services are 8:00 and 10:45 AM and 7:30 PM.
