t P f w p t P € i Hinton oman's Club Holds May Meeting The strawberry theme was carried out not only in the tea table appointments but also in the delightful refreshments served at the May meeting of the Hinton Womans Club. Atiered crystal serving tray, encircled with white daisies, held hand dipped strawberries and was flanked by footed cake plates holding delicious strawberry cakes. Hostesses pictured are Ms. Betty Basham, Ms. Beverly Carter, Ms. Janie Cooper and Ms. Dorothy Jean Boley. Mollie Mock Concluding the 2002-2003 club year of the Hinton Womans Club' was an outstanding program "Dancing the Night Away" presented by Miss Mollie Mock, 18, a talented and highlyrecognized performer with the Beckley Dance Theatre and Beckley Performing Arts under the direction of artistic director Jerry POBO. Mollie, daughter of Donna Mock .... and Freddie Mock of Hinton, has been dancing since the age of three, making the trip to Beckley three or more time a week for lessons and rehearsals. Miss Mock has been a leading dancer in the production of the Nutcracker, a Christmas ballet and received a scholarship to train at the North Carolina School of the Arts. This fall she will be attending the Point Park College in Pittsburgh, PA. to major in dance with a concertation on ballet. A member of the 2003 graduating class of Hinton High School and president of the student body, she was selected West Virginia's homecoming queen at the state pageant in Charleston and will represent the state in the national finals July 12-17 at Disneyland Resort, Anaheim, California. The club program held in the main auditorium of the Memorial Buidling was introduced by club president, Ms. Betty Basham. The dancer revealed her professionalism she demonstrated the various categories of dance including jazz, ballet and tap. Her routines included a dance from The Nutcracker, Land of the Sweet and Land of the Candy Cane (in which she played Clars) and a jazz dance "Broadway and all that Jazz." : At the close of the performance, Mollie was presented with a monetary gift from the club. Ms. Basham conducted the business which opened in regular form and following usual reports, certificates Were presented for the Kit-Kat membership program and a mug to Ms. Hazel Davidson for her work with HOBY. The Water Festival Committee, composed of Ms. Lena Jane Jones, Ms. Barbara Wykle and Ms. Pauline Meadows announced the Maid of Honor selected to represent the club was Miss Jennifer Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Royce Brown. Courtesy awards to the seniors from the Womans Club were presented at the assembly May 13th. Names of prospective members were requested before th board meetng in July. A summer conference is slated for Aug. 1-2 at Stonewall Jackson Inn and members were urged to remember the 100 year celebration to be held at Ogleby Park April 16, 2004. Each club is supposed to make a banner to be carried and also to take a cup of dirt from their home town to plant a tree. A social hour was enjoyed at the close of the program. Area Students Named To Dean's List at Alderson- Broaddus College Several area students have been named to the Dean's List at Alderson-Broaddus College for the spring 2003 semester. Joni S. O'Neal, of Hinton, a political science niajor from Hinton, WV was named to the Dean's List for the spring semester 2003 at Alderson-Broaddus College, Philippi, WV. Alderson-Broaddus College is a health-related and professional educational institution firmly rooted in the liberal arts. Alderson- Broaddus College is located in Philippi, West Virginia, and is affiliated with the American Baptist Churches, USA, and the West Virginia Baptist Convention.
