Student Council recently
participated in Nationwide
Insurance's campaign to keep their
prom alcohol and drug free.
Scheduled activities throughout the
week prior to the prom helped to get
the messageacross to the entire
student body that drugs, drinking
and driving do not mix.
On Wednesday, May lst.,, the
student body was invited to view an
80 minute video in the school
auditorium that was produced
entirely by thestudent council. The
first scene begins with student
council members arriving to a hearty
party at thehome of Josh McBride.
The party progressed as more
students arrived with more drugs
and alcohol and plans began to form
as to who would drive home. The
next segment of the video shows
students attempting to drive while
impaired. Sheirff Garry Wheeler
arrives on the scene to arrest Brian
Kirkham, handcuff and haul him off
to jail. He also arrested and charged

The final scene takes place at r

service of Caryne Johnson. A moving
sermon is delivered by Rev. Warren
Gilpin, pastor of First Baptist
Church as students look on at
Caryne in her coffin. Paige Willey
reads a moving poem about death
that has come to visit her friend
Caryne. Nicol Belling remembers
Caryne with a beautiful song. Angel
Ward, friend of the family, delivers
a most moving eulogy with many
personal rememberances of Caryne.
Throughout the day as the video
was being viewed, student council
members were visited by the Grim
Reaper. Students painted their faces
white and were not allowed to talk
in order to represent the number of
fatalities caused by drunk driving.
On Thursday, Sheriff Garry

"The Truth Shall Make You Free"
(John 8:32)
By Fred Seavers
Organs and Pianos in Worship?
So far, we have noticed there are no
occurrences in the Bible, of first century
Christians playing on a stringed, etc.,
instrument in praise to God.
We noticed one cannot go back to the
Law of Moses to justify the use of various
stringed instruments in worship to God, for
we no longer follow the Law of Moses, but
the Law of Christ-- Galatians 5:4, etc.
We noticed it does no good to defend
the use of pianos, etc., in worship to God by
language evolved, the word "Psallo,"
translated "making melody (KJV)," began to
refer to songs which were sung to, or not to,
• the accompaniment of mechanical
instruments. Later, in modern Greek, it
referred exclusively to singing only-- Bauer,
Gingrich, and Danker Greek Lexicon.
Some insist this word "Psallo" must still
mean pluck or twang as on a stringed
instrument. Notice however, that in this
verse it was a command to "Psallo," or,
"make melody." Therefore, if it demands a
stringed instrument, etc., each member must
saying, "God didn't say not to use them." play one to fulfill this command of God.
We compared this to the situation with
Moses and the smiting of the rock --
Numbers 20:1-13. Compare also, Leviticus
10:1-2. We cannot add to, nor take away
from the Word of God -- Galatians 1:6-9.
Now notice, that some say, "in Ephesians
5:19, the Bible says to sing Psalms, and they
were sung to the accompaniment of stringed
instruments, etc., Psalm 150." To a point,
this is so. The Old Testament Psalms were
not always accompanied by mechanical
instruments, but often were. Here again,
we follow the example of New Testament
Christians, not the Old Testament Jews.
Some say, "What about the Greek word
"Psallo" in Ephesians 5:19? As the Greek
Common sense of course, would tell you this
is not the case. Even more importantly, if it
be an instrument plucked or twanged, notice
it was to be done, "In your heart ," not in
your hand.
We can know theretore, from example
and command, that New Testament
Christians sang only, and never played.
Next week we will notice some verses from
Revelation chapters 5; 14; and 19;
concerning this same subject.
