May 24, 1979 Hinton News--3 Friendship Night Held Federal Funds Made Available Governor Rockefeller ann- ounced today (Wednesday) that $1.64 million in federal funds has been made available to assist families within certain income brackets Who faced hav- ing their utilities cut off during the past winter. The Governor said approxim- ately 8,000 West Virginia famil- ies may be eligible for credits on their utility bills, and the funds will be administered th- rough 22 community action groups around the state. The fmids can provide up to $250 in utility bill credits to individuals or families who, dur- ing the winter months, were faced with shut- off notices and whose income-- for a family of four,- does not exceed $8,375 a following amounts have been year. The credits, according to Rockefeller, will be applied to utility bills for the first five months of the year. Senator Jennings Randolph, chairman of the subcommittee on the handicapped, said the federal funds will provide en- riched instructional services in- cluding preschool- work- study programs, teacher training and parent counseling. Academy of Friendship Night was observed by The Women of the Moose at their meeting Tuesday evening in the Moose Home. The acting Senior Regent, Mrs. Kathleen Wilson opened. the meeting then turned the ganel over to Co worker Vergie. O'Bryan who was pro tern chairman for Academy of Friendship program. She intro- duced the officers filling the chairs, Chaplain Mamie Carte who led the prayer; Jr. Reg- ent, Sallie Vess led the Flag Salute and song America; Ger- ene Allen Jr. Graduate Reg- ent, Sue Thompson, Treasurer and Nellie Miller, Recorder. Elizabeth Heatwole , Louise Cox, Nellie White, and Virginia Liddon other Committee mem- bers. The program consisted of the "Ring Ceremony" for those who met the requirements for the degree while serving their chap- tar as officers or chairmen. Our new friends received the degree at the annual ste acad- emy of Friendship session which was held in Princeton April 24th. and received the insignea of the degree, which is a gold ring to be worn on the chain of the women of the Moose pin, at the Chapter night meet- ing Three new friends, Ethel Lill- y, Helen Shorter and Patricia Meador were admitted to the golden circle. Enrollment was held for Anna Jean Ward and Mildred Mead- or.
