P ) May Is, lSb H/nton News 210 2rid Ave. Hintou, W. Va. :met Dsar News, The article in the "Hinten News" dated Tues., May 15, 19S4 eoncerni the blased op- inion of the editor, how much untn be has reported, es- poeially at eleet/~ time, simply leaves me breathless. The paeple of Sunma s Co- unty are fortunate and proud to have a newepaper in our comm- unity, our pawf repom wed- deaths, visitors, ma s, items for sale, ect. to the elderly, shut - ins, and the youth. With out the Hinton News, we would be tminformed of area news. I think that Sheriff Blume's comments about the Hinten " Newsand Mr. Long are SOUR GRAPES. Please with hold my name because I live, work, and vote in Summers County. A Tax Payer May 17, 1964 Hinton News 2rid Ave. I-linton, W. Vs. Dear Sir, Let me say that I ENJOY reading OUR weekly news- paper and that many of us here in Summers County rely on your paper as the only local news we get. I was angry and hurt that S~m-fff Blume would attack our paper for reporting news, We live in West Virginia not I Many of us elderly citizens need to get the news deliver- ed to our homes, some of us have hearing problenm. It is the right of the paper to keep us informed expaciaUy in an elect- Ion year. Then we as voters can change things that are wrong. .... We dgn_~t .want or need our onunty in the red. It is time elected officials accotmt for their actions instead of blare. ing someone else. Please with hold my name. If the Sheriff would buy space to attack our paper for printing the news, I might be subject to mistreatment, since I agree with freedom of the Preu and live and. veto in Summers Co- unty. Sincerely Yours, Please withhold my name May 18, 1984 Mr. Fred Hint~ News ~.10 Second Avenue Hinton, W. Vs. 25951 Dear Mr. tong, Long ago it was said" If you can't stand the heat - get out of the Kitchen". I feel that this saying can be correlated with polities in Summers County. If a parson is in polities he should understand that a public fig- ure, such as the Sheriff, is suspetable to public ridicule and ~n'utiney, whether it be by indivt~lals or by the news media. Our Sheriff should well un- sarstand the Sources of taxes in our county. Hinton News employs asw-al people and the Izminel also eou to the tax be~e of the county. Whydo away with a businms and cont- ribute to our unemployment? Maybe S~eriff Blume should Just get out of the Kitchen. Kitchen. Please with hold my name because I do not wish to be harassed by his Department.., IN FAVOR OF FREEDOM OF THE P~. May 18, 1984 Editor, Hinton News: Referring to the political ad- vertisement by James H. Binme appenrin8 in the I-finton News dated May 15, 1964 one would think he was rmmi~ for the Editors position instead of sber/ff. After his malisiotet att- ack on the newspaper and it's editor in particular, Binme stated: "While some of us are con- selentiously working hard to do our Jol~ to make our county a. bett place to live, others must constantly strive with their weird thinking to cause a parasitic blight on that same county." The written attack on our editor and local paper was complet- e/y unealied for. Surely Blume is not so small minded to think such action would help him get. re elected. The news med/a should report discrepancies where the public and their monies are concerned. My im- pression is that Blume wishes the news media were not avail- able to inform the public of those discrepancies. If the news is so wrong in its reporting, we wonder why the sheriff doesn't issue a correct. ion instead of a verbal attack which solves nothing. In reference to the above quote from Biume It is my opinion the news and especially its editor is indeed working hard to make our county a better place to live. That must mean the sheriff's weird thinking is cau- sing the blight. The county does not need an official of this type person. G~d save the ~reedom of the press and'to help accom- plish this is to vote against the likes of Binme. A coneorned citizen Please withhold my name be- cause I must live in the county. To the Editor: Chris Sowards, who is the campaign manager for Secret- ary of State candidate Homer lteck, recently wrote a letter to the editor including a large number of criticisms of my own candidacy for Secretary of State. MAY 22, 1985 ployment situation in Summers County, our most urgent and pressing problem. Such a developmect would be invaluable to Summers County in job and economic returns. Our county will enter it's third year operating with the records indicating a budget defteR, with no apparent improvement im the immediate future. This state held property would provide jobs, generate revenue, and give a tax basis by which to reduce or ultimately eliminate our deficit spending. Since tourism is fast becoming a boost for West Virgin/a and Summers County has wonder- ful surroundings ( i. e., The Bluestone, Pipestem, and etc.), a resort plannned on this 202.5 acre site could have a tremed. dously beneficial economic im- pact on Southern West Vir- ginia. ..... May I urge you, Chairman of the Public land COmmission, to accept the proposal to sell the Pence Springs Prison Complex for a resort development pro ect. This development would pres- erve the historic significiance of this site and increase the economic security of Summe~ County.
