BATS WERE NOT CONNECTING
In baseball The Summers County
Bobcats got off to a shaky start in
tournament plaagainst Shady
pring.
It was a pitcher's battle. The bats
ere not connecting that much. Our
team that is now 16 wins and 6
ldsses only managed 5 hits off of
adySpring.
t They entered the game with a
am batting average of .369. The
]obcat pitchers only allowed three
its the entire game.
Shane Bennett started for the
bcats six innings. He
and
worked
ruck out seven and walked two.
a.tt Burdette came on for the last
mmng and allowed only i hit but it
as a homer. That home run was the
ciding factor and Shady won the
$me I to 0.

host of the first Girls YBOA]AAU
Tournament in Summers County
this past Saturday.
It was a small tournament but it
was packed with talent. Three
teams from southern WV competed
in the 16 and under division. They
were three of the better teams in the
state coming from James Monroe
and Wyoming East as well as our
local girls.
It is always nice to win and our
girl's team served notice that their
second-place finish at the State
YBOA tournament was no fluke. In
the first Game our girls defeated
James Monroe's team, the Vipers, by
a score of 45 to 33.
In game two our girls bested the
Wyoming East squad by a 35 to 26
score. East got out to a 15 to 5 lead
in the first quarter. Our Coach Ken
Harshaw knew he had to save our
girls legs. They were playing their
second game back to back. He
settled into a zone defense in the
agame with the Independence first quarter and abigger East team
Patriots. They must win this game took advantage of it. He was resting
