Those in attendance to help the ladies celebrate were the Mayor Joe Blankenship, Middle School children and the tree board which included Dwight Emrich, Steve Pack, Donna Pivont, Pat Jordan & Betty Basham. Arbor Day is a holiday that comes every year in which individuals and! . or groups are encouraged to plant and care for a tree or trees. The first Arbor Day Celebration was started . in Nebraska City, Nebraska on April 10, 1872 in which there were close to one million trees planted. Andrew Sheets from the Division of Forestry came and spoke to the group about celebration. There are 15 tree towns in West Virginia. Hinton has been a member for 15 years and is top ten in the prettiest towns for our tree planting and beautification efforts that are being made every day. Our tree this year was donated to us from Toyota. Whenever you pass by the tree, located at 506 Temple Street, there is a card hanging from the tree that tells you about the tree. The Tree Board, along with Joe Blankenship and students from the Middle School all gathered around the tree to help plant the tree.
