Announces Kindergarten
Pre-Enrollment
Schedule
Students who will be five years of
age prior to Sept. 1, may attend
kindergarten in Summers County
Schools next school year. Pre-enroll-
ment and screening for these stu-
dents will be conducted in the schools
between May 9 and May 16. The
schedule is as follows:
Wed. May 9 - Sandstone (morn-
ing); Wed. May 9 - Pipestem (after-
noon); Thurs. May 10 - Jumping
Branch; Fri. May 11 -Bellepoint; Mon.

- Hinton Area; Wed. May 16 - Talcott
(including Forest Hill).
Ifyou l~ave already contacted the
school about your child's attendance,
you will be notified as to the time for
pre-enrollment and screening. If you
have not yet contacted the school,
please do so immediately so you may
be given an appointment for pre-
enrollment.
Parents should know that under
West Virginia law, attendance at a
state-approved kindergarten is
mandatory. Also note, that at this
time, Summers County does not
permit kindergarten attendance for
students who turn five after Sept. 1.
We have no testing program or early
admittance for these students.
State law requires that all stu.
dents entering our schools be
screened in the following areas: vi-
sion, hearing, and speechqanguage.
Qualified personnel will conduct
these screenings. In addition, some
schools may include screening for
fine motor skills and concept devel-
opment. Also, some schools may
fingerprint and collect data on stu-
dents under the Kid Tracks/Child
Find (anti-kidnapping) programs. If
any parent objects to any of these
screening tests, that parent MUST
notify the school principal, IN WRIT-
ING, prior to May 7.
A parent or guardian should ac-
company the child to the pre-enroll-
ment and screening and the follow-
ing should be brought: a birth cer-
tificate ( or other official record of
birth), immunization records (stu-
dents are REQUIRED to have the
following before the beginning of
school this fall: 3 doses DTP and 3
doses Polio with at least one dose
given AFTER the 4th birthday; I
dose rubella and I dose rubeola --
probably MMR -- received after the
1st birthday; and a tuberculin test
with negativereading done within 4
months of school entry). If your child
has not completed these, but can do
so before Sept. 1, please attend the
screening.
The pre-enrollment and screen-
ing is of great importance to your
child to give him/her a good start in
school. Thisisalsovital tothe schools
for proper planning for the fall.
Please plan to come. If you have
questions, please contact the school
your child will attend.

The future will prove that these are very important times to
Summers County. There are many issues at hand which
makes our future look bright and promising. Our County
Commissioners must address these issues.
Stuart Oxley has expressed his intentions on many of these
very important issues, He knows exactly what Summers
County needs and what it will take to build a future for our
families and communities. Stuart has the education and ex-
perience to get the job done.
I know Stuart as a father, educator and as a former council-
man. His sincerity is second to none and is much needed in
