This week we will look at the question, can we, by faith, call our religious leaders “father” or “holy father” or “reverend”? Since faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God, we must look at what the word of God says about this subject. We will look first at the title men love to wear, “father” an father.” Matthew 23:8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren. 9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. 10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ. 11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. If we believe what Jesus Christ says in the above verses we will . understand by faith that we cannot call any man on earth father, or holy father. Why? Because “For one is your Father, which is in heaven.” Since faith comes by hearing the word of God, Romans 10 verse 17, and “whatsoever is not of faith is sin,” Romans 14 verse 23, it is a sin to be called “father” or “holy father.” Next week we will look at another title men seek to wear, reverend.
