Prom
It is prom week at Summers
County High School and the Student
Council, under the direction of Mrs.
Kathy Blevins, is busy promoting a
safe prom night. All students at the
school are eligible to sign and keep
the promise that they will not use
drugs or alcohol on prom night. The
Student Council will be encouraging
their classmates to participate. It is
a way to highlight the importance
of positive peer pressure on an
important night in the lives of teens.
Ann Gore, our local Nationwide
Insurance agent, has been involved
with this yearly campaign since its
inception 25 years ago. "I am
encouraged by the student response
to Prom Promise and I'm so
appreciative of the support from the
business community. I remind the
students each year that they live in
a community that cares about them.
We hope that parents, church
leaders, teachers, and community
members will encourage the teens
to sign and keep the promise. It has
been a joy to work with Mrs. Blevins
and her predecessor, Mrs. Connie
Newton, over the years for this
worthwhile program."
The Prom is scheduled for April
22 at Pipestem State Park.
