( As you know our election on .May 10th will decide who you want to be our Mayor and the face of our city for the next four years. As your Mayor I will always show leadership and I will refrain from slanderous campaigning and only campaign on our record, facts, issues, and a vision for our future in this great city. However, I must defend myself, my family, our city council, and our city employees from the rumors and slanderous accusations being spread concerrting this election. I have had the privilege to serve our community for many years as your banker, coach, Board of Education member and your Mayor for the last seven years. I have not been afforded the opportunity to hold these prestigious positions by being a thief, a drunk, and an unethical person I am being portrayed to be. Furthermore, our city council members and some city employees are being accused of unethical acts as well. I first found these rumors about me to be humorous but when you accuse my council and my employees of wrong doing, thafs where I draw the line. This election should not be about rumors and slanderous accusations, as we hear enough of this on the national level. However, I must state the true facts to our voters. The first rumor and slanderous accusation I would like to address is Police Chief Snavely's salary. I was first told it was being said Chief Snavely's annual salary was $60,000.00 per year and just last week it has amazingly increased to $68,000.00. These statements are simply not true. To set the facts straight, Chief Snavely's annual income is actually $46,652.00• Is this salary too much for someone who doesn't get overtime, runs police ByAallyah Forren, and PrestonBallengee, and CodyCro0k; office of currently seven people, puts his life on the line each day for your Arrangements were by the BrandanIsaac whose rocket was named "The Sih, er protection and has completely revamped a struggling department that is Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors of It was a fun experience at JBE as Foxes" andwent 184.7 feet. n(sw (sn~ nf mn~t r~aCnar,t~arl in ~llr Qf~f¢'0 Thlo ;c far ~,, }ha ~,n÷,-¢o },~ Hinton. ~v~r. ,Jess wnl~;e ~rom ~u~ ~n Mr. White and the three ............ . . This is absolutely not true! I retired from banking last May 30th and had been planning on doing so for the past two years. In fact, last November the bank held an unbelievable retirement party for me that many of you attended. Would an organization hold an expensive party and honor the retiree with nice gifts if he/she has been fired? I think not. If anyone would like to investigate this, I urge you to call It is also being said that I was recently cited for a DUI by the West Virginia State Police and Chief Snavely had it dismissed. I can proudly say this is also completely false. Furthermore, if'this had been true, I would owe it to the people of our great city to resign immediately. The office of the Mayor would deserve that. I also want to state that the City of Hinton did not pay to have my driveway paved or Chief Snavely's driveway paved. These same claims were made through the state of West Virginia with false unethical charges. I urged a complete investigation by the state as to these charges. They complied and all claims were proven to be unfounded and false. As your Mayor, I would never use city funds for my personal well-being and challenge anyone to say otherwise. False and slanderous statements should never be part of an election and I just wonder what they are going to say next. My only answer to that is that I will always respect this office with the honesty and integrity it deserves. I have always made that my campaign promise and pledge to you. I urge you the voters when approached with claims about me, my council or my employees to analyze the statements, consider the source and then you can draw your own true conclusion. I am asking you the voters of our great city to the take these facts into consideration, think about your vote and flood the poles during this election. I am very proud of what our city has accomplished these last two terms and I hope to have the same privilege over the next four years. If you would like to discuss this further with me please Facebook me or call me at (304) 890-7776. Thanking you in advance for your support. Joseph M.
