Bus Drivelis' Needed
The Summers County Senior
Citizens Program, Title III is
making an appeal for drivers
with a little spare time to
provide transportation to older
persons who need occasional
rides to doctors, to pay bills and
for other good reasons. The
Senior Program can pay qual-
ified drivers 17 cents per mile
for expenses.

In most instances, the vol-
unteer driver could attend to
their own business while the
older adult was visiting the
doctor, shopping or paying bills.
At 17 cents per mile, a trip to a
town 35 miles away would pay
the volunteer driver $11.90 for
expenses round trip.
Anyone interested in becom-
ing a volunteer driver for the
Senior Citizens Program is ask-
ed to come by the Senior Cen-
ter between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00
p.m. on weekdays and fill out an
application. References will be
required. Call 466- 4019 for more
information.

The Summers County Car-
eer Center Chapter of FBLA
attended the Southern Regional
Future Business Leaders of
America Conference held at
Concord College on Saturday,
March 31. The southern region
is composed of 16 southern West
Virginia counties, and was att-
ended by about 500 people. The
activities of the day included
various competitions and the
election of a new Southern
Sectional President. Winners at
this competition are eligible to
compete at the State FBLA
conference, which is to be held
on April 28 at Glenville State
College. The first place winn-
ers at the State Conference
compete in the National Com-
petitions which will be held in
New Orleans, LA July I- 4.
Local winners at Saturday's
competition were: Accounting

Business Law- First Place-

Appointment
Highways Commissioner
Charles L. Miller announced
today the appointment of Steven
Berger as District Engineer for
Highways' District Eight in
Elkins.
He will replace Robert Ware
who is being transferred to
Highways' District Nine in Lew-
isburg as District Engineer.
Ware will replace Rufus D.
Bryant who has resigned from
the Department.
Berger began his employ-
ment with the DOH in 1966 upon
graduaiton from Clemson Univ-
ersity. He has worked in the
Right of Way, Construction and
Maintenance Divisons in Char-
leston as well as serving as the
District Two Assistant Main-
tenanee Engineer in Hunting-
ton.

Thanks again for giving to the
public to express their views on
important subjects.
I think our honorable gov-
ernor should be commended for
vetoing the a wine bill that'
would have permittted wine
sales in our grocery stores.
Personally I think it should be
left in the liquor stores, also the
beer should be put in the liquor
stores. Governor Rockefeller
vetoed the bill, was about half of
the highway fatalities are alco-
hol related and that he feared
the legistlation would make the
problem worse. Their are many
good reasons I could give. I
believe we should let the Gov-
ernor know that we appreciate
his veto.

stated that one of the reasons he , washing away. He stopped by the Summers COUR
Conservaiton Service office and requested assistance. A
attack was developed to stop the erosion and make tl
productive. Mr. JOnes, with the aid of the Southet
Conservaiton District is carrying out the plan. The plan als
for planting 10,000 White Pine seedlings. This will-conver
steep brushy areas to productive woodland. If you h|
eroding area or other conservation problem on your land,
the Soil Conservation Service in ltinton for help. The
number is: 466- 2033.
