Parmer Commissioner of Accounts Summers County, West Vir- girds Mar. 27, There are two different types of women who remain volunt- arily childless. One type ex- presses intentions to remain childless relatively early in life, even prior to marriage. The other type arrives at a child- less decision through a series of postponements after marriage as the woman develops a life style that she does not wish to give up. These two types have been referred to as "early articulators" and "postponers, "by Sharon K. Houseknecht of Ohio State University. In a study presented at the American Psychological Assoc- iation's Annual Convention, Houseknecht concluded that a major difference found between married "early articulators" and married "postponers" was with respect to family back- *ground experiences. The post- poners' parents had provided more encouragement for asser- tive autonomy in childhood than had the parents of the early articulators. This fmdlng is con. el,tent with their greater usage of a democratic discipline pat- tern. In contrast, the early articulators reported that they had been exposed to more ex- tensive parental demands for achievement efforts than had the postponers. This emphasis on achievement occurred in a family atmosphere where there was significantly less warmth and attitude compatibility than the postponers depicted for their family of origin. The researcher speculated as to how these factors enter into the early versus later dlcision to • remain childless• Perhaps as a ! result of being pushed to ach- ieve, the early articulators were not seriously concerned with the issue of motherhood. Their most immediate concern conceivably could have been those act- ivities in Which they could dem- onstrate successful achieve- ment efforts, since that was emphasized in their families. It is not unlikely that they could have eventually concluded that children would interfere with their ability to achieve , part- icularly since they had not been accustomed to a family life which they might have desired Legal:Notice NOTICE TO CREDITORS To the Creditors and Bene- ficiaries of the Estates of Mary Jordon Grimmett, deceased, Jesse Lester Maddy, deceased, William StricMer Hunter, and Madge Mildred Surber, whether All persons having claims agains the Estates of Mary Jordon GrimmeR, Jesse J.ester Maddy, William Strickler Hunt- er and Madge Mildred Surber, whether due or not, are not- ified to exhibit the same with the voucher thereof, legally verified to the undersigned, at my office in the City of Hinton, West Virginia, on or before July 13, 1979, at 10:50 A.M., other- wise, they may by law, be excluded from all benefits of said estate. Tax Tips With the April 16 tax filing deadline rapidly approaching, the INternal Revenue Service advises taxpayers to spend a few minutes extra after the tax forms are completed to double check their work. Many taxpayers, who post- pone their tax work until the closing days of the filing sea- son, file tax returns containing mistakes whicba re apparently the result of hasty preparation. These mistakes can cause you to miss benefits, delay proce- ssing, and delay receipt of your refund• Taxpayers should insure that the address and social security numbers are correct. These and all other entries should be leg- ible. All math computations should be checked. Insure that all needed information is given and all required forms are att- ached. Make sure entries are made on the correct lines, and the proper filing status ( single, married filing jointly, etc.) is checked. And, finally, the re- turn must be signed by the taxpayer ( both if a joint re- turn). If you owe additional taxes, pay it by check or money order to the Internal Revenue Service. Send no cash. A check or money order gives a good record of payment. Also be sure your social security number is on the check. If you are pay- ing the balance due on your 1978 tax and the first installment on 1979 estimated tax, be sure to use separate checks and clearly identify them.
