Found Dead
An inmate at the Summers
County jail was found dead in
his cell Monday morning about
7am.
Johnny Simmons of Jumping
Branch apparently hanged him-
self with his bootlaces. Trooper
A.W. Maddy of the Hinton
Detachment of the West
Virginia State Police lodged
Simmons shortly after 8 pm
Sunday evening. Simmons had
driven a motorcycle into Lake
Bluestone on Sunday afternoon
according to Maddy.
Sheriff Bob J. Maddy said
that details were still sketchy
at presstime, but that the jailor
probably checked the prisoners
about 3:30 am. Trooper B.W.
Twyman assisted inthe investi-
gation.

Hinton City Councilman Stuart
Oxley, Chairman of the City's
Housing Committee, announced
at last week's city council meet-
ing that the Rehabilation Pro-
gram is well underway. Oxley
said that about $250,000 has
been made available through
HUD and Region I for use in re-
habilitating existing housing in
the city and work has already
begun on four homes under the
program. He said the city hopes
to work on about twenty homes
under the project He said a
maximum loan of $10,000 is
available to each applicant and
the remainder will probably.be
used up in administrative costs.
Anyone interested in the pro-
gram should inquire at City Hall

Area homeowners are invited
to participate in a four-session
Landscape Short Course to be
held in the Memorial Building in
Hinton on the last four Monday
evenings of April.
The short course, which be-
gins at 7:30 p.m. on April 9, is
jointly sponsored by the West
Virginia University Extension
Service and the Bluestone Lake
Garden Club in Hinton. The
sessions are open to the public
without charge.
The topic for the first session,
scheduled for April 9, is Land-
scape Designs and Plant Mat-
erials. The speaker will be

Five hundred and forty feet of
skid marks and a broken guard

visible from the road of a single
vehicle accident that claimed
the life of a Hilldale man. The
mishap oecured about 1:30 am
Saturday.
A pick-up truck driven
by. Jimmie Cody, 17, of Ballard,
WV plunged about two hundred
feet over an embankment and
landed near the old railroad bed
at the mouth of Great Bend
Tunnel. A passenger, Dana R.
Cales, 19, was killed instantly.

Meadows, 15, was injured.
Cody was reported in critical
condition in the intensive care
unit of Summers County
Hospital and Meadows was list-
ed in satisfactory condition.

An inmate at the Summers
County jail was found dead in
his cell Monday morning about
7am.
Johnny Simmons of Jumping
Branch apparently hanged him-
self with his bootlaces. Trooper
A.W. Maddy of the Hinton
Detachment of the West
Virginia State Police lodged
Simmons shortly after 8 pm
Sunday evening. Simmons had
driven a motorcycle into Lake
Bluestone on Sunday afternoon
according to Maddy.
Sheriff Bob J. Maddy said
that details were still sketchy
at presstime, but that the jailor
probably checked the prisoners
about 3:30 am. Trooper B.W.
Twyman assisted inthe investi-
gation.

Hinton City Councilman Stuart
Oxley, Chairman of the City's
Housing Committee, announced
at last week's city council meet-
ing that the Rehabilation Pro-
gram is well underway. Oxley
said that about $250,000 has
been made available through
HUD and Region I for use in re-
habilitating existing housing in
the city and work has already
begun on four homes under the
program. He said the city hopes
to work on about twenty homes
under the project He said a
maximum loan of $10,000 is
available to each applicant and
the remainder will probably.be
used up in administrative costs.

Landscape Short Course to be
held in the Memorial Building in
Hinton on the last four Monday
evenings of April.
The short course, which be-
gins at 7:30 p.m. on April 9, is

Virginia University Extension

vehicle accident that claimed
the life of a Hilldale man. The
mishap oecured about 1:30 am

by. Jimmie Cody, 17, of Ballard,
WV plunged about two hundred
feet over an embankment and
landed near the old railroad bed
at the mouth of Great Bend
Tunnel. A passenger, Dana R.
Cales, 19, was killed instantly.

Meadows, 15, was injured.
Cody was reported in critical
condition in the intensive care
unit of Summers County
Hospital and Meadows was list-
ed in satisfactory condition.
