H INTON inmate Found Dead An inmate at the Summers County jail was found dead in his cell Monday morning about 7am. Johnny Simmons of Jumping Branch apparently hanged him- self with his bootlaces. Trooper A.W. Maddy of the Hinton Detachment of the West Virginia State Police lodged Simmons shortly after 8 pm Sunday evening. Simmons had  driven a motorcycle into Lake Bluestone on Sunday afternoon according to Maddy. Sheriff Bob J. Maddy said that details were still sketchy at presstime, but that the jailor probably checked the prisoners about 3:30 am. Trooper B.W. Twyman assisted inthe investi- gation. Available Hinton City Councilman Stuart Oxley, Chairman of the City's Housing Committee, announced at last week's city council meet- ing that the Rehabilation Pro- gram is well underway. Oxley said that about $250,000 has been made available through HUD and Region I for use in re- habilitating existing housing in the city and work has already begun on four homes under the program. He said the city hopes to work on about twenty homes under the project He said a maximum loan of $10,000 is available to each applicant and the remainder will probably.be used up in administrative costs. SHELTON Mrs. Margaret Jarette Shel- ton, 87, of Alderson died Fri- day at 3:45 p.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ruth Spurill of Springfield, Va. Born in Greenbrier County in 1891, she was a daughter of the late William and Malinda Jeff- ers Mitchell. The mishap oecured about 1:30 am Saturday. A pick-up truck driven by. Jimmie Cody, 17, of Ballard, WV plunged about two hundred feet over an embankment and landed near the old railroad bed at the mouth of Great Bend Tunnel. A passenger, Dana R. Cales, 19, was killed instantly. Another passenger , James Meadows, 15, was injured. Cody was reported in critical condition in the intensive care unit of Summers County Hospital and Meadows was list- ed in satisfactory condition. Trooper A.W. Maddy of the W.V.
