Happening
The Talcott Junior High Student
Council sponsored "PARENTS
NIGHT', on Jan. 31, duringhalftime
of the Talcott-Rupert Junior High
Boys basketball game. Each individ-
ual ballplayer, cheerleader, and team
staffmember was recognized for their
hard work and dedication through-
out the basketball season. Parents
or guests were requested to come
forward as their children were rec-
ognized. Mothers or guests received
a carnation, and =warm hugs" were
received by all.

Master of ceremonies for the pres-
entation was Mr. Kit Durham, Tal-
€ott Junior High 7th and 8th grade
coach. Carrying the basket of flow-
era for the presentation was Little
Miss Laura Kirkham, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Kirkham, of
Lowell.
Special thanks were given to Mrs.
Frances Boone, Miss Jennifer Bay-
Ior, Mr. Carl McDaniel, and River-
side Florist for their contributions to
the program.
Jenny Mann
Dec. Student ofthe Month is Jenny
Mann, daughter of Joe and Betty
Mann of Talcott. Jenny is a ninth
grader at Talcott Junior High School
and was a member of the TJHS Lady
Pirates Basketball Team. She is also
active in Girls AAU Basketball and
Student Cotmcil.

Above is a bulletin board designed by the Talcott Junior
High Student Council to show support for the US Troops in
the Persian Gulf.
On Pri. Feb. 8, the Talcott Junior
High Student Council declared the
day, as red, white and blue day. Both
students and teachers were re-
quested to wear something patri-
otic, to show support for the US
Troops in the Persian Gulf. In the
afternoon, the student council in-
v/ted Mr. Howard Green, who're-
cently had returned from Saudi
Arabia, to speak to the intermediate
and junior high grade levels. Mr.
Green spoke of different cultural
habits and living conditions, of Saudi
Arabia and also shared some per-
sonal experiences he had incoun-
tered. The student council would like
to thank Mr. Green for attending
and speaking with the students.
To show support for the US Troops
in the Persian Gulf, the student
council designed a bulletin board for
the school gym.

Battery Soldier
of the Quarter
(JAN-MAR)
Sgt. Gary L. Bremer was awarded
Soldier ofthe Quarter for the Howit-
zer Battery 1/150TH. Armor CAV
Unit located in Hinton. Sgt. Bremer
is the gunner on Howitzer crew #2
and is responsible for setting offthe
proper deflection on the gun.
Sgt. Bremer was chosen for this
award by the Battery Commander,
First Sergeant, and by vote by his
peers.
Sgt. Bremer resides in Hinton
with his wife Ernestine and three
children. He has been a member of
the Unit for over fifteen years.

On Valentine's Day the Talcott
Junior High Student Council made
and sold = special cookies to cele-
brate Valentine's Day. The students
bought cookies for friends, parents,
teachers, and others. The cookies
were delicious, and the project was
very successful. The student council
would like to thank everyone who
participated in this project. (The

Ground was broken on Thursday,
March 21, for the HHS Hall of Fame
Memorial, Work crews from the
Summers County Career Center
under the supervision of Steve Lilly
and Norman Farley began to pour
concrete for the 625 square foot me-
morial.
This project, which is being built
to commemorate the 40 deceased
members, ie being totally financed
by donations.

A Valentine's locker game was
played by the junior high students in
celebration of the day. Prizes were
awarded to Stella Harvey, David
Morrison and Brian Graham.

Area Sports
our players were excellent scorers,
very aggressive, had great ball con-
trol and passing skills. They felt
they were very aggressive, hard
working, and very well behaved on
and off the field.
The players in both the spring
and fall are: Johnny Crawford, Brian
Eckle, J.T. Payne, Scott Farrell, Ryan
Davis, Jonathan Meador, Bobby
Richmond, Audrey Richmond,
Austin Persinger, Amber Persinger,
Nathan Erenberg, Brian Erenberg,
Timmy Erenberg, Denial Halloran,
Jonathan Eskridge, Adam Cantrell,
Jason Keason, Shane Hutchison,
Phillip Sizemore, Willie Rutherford.
These players need to he commended
on a job well done.
A very special thanks goes to
Richard Eckles, Clark Sizemore, and
David Eskridge for all their help
with coaching and assisting to get
the field ready for each and every
game at home. Also, to all the par-
ents, brothers, sisters, and friends
for all their help in transporting the
players to all the out ofcountygames.
Without them we would not have
been able to participate in many
games.
Summers County Soccer now has
it's own field for the under 14 and 16
teams at the Sandstone School field.
Special thanks to the Board of Edu-
cation, Mr. Redes, Mr. Withrow for
all their help in this endeavor.
