Key Club was busy with four major projects - Thanks- giving Food Baskets, Coats for Christmas, Christmas Parade, and Snow Queen. We would like to thank those who help make our projects a huge success. Thanksgiving Food Baskets - We delivered six huge Food baskets to needy families due to the efforts of the residents of Summers County, Krogers, Abie's Market, Save-A-Lot, Hinton Kiwanis Club, Mary Shrader, Elizabeth Martin, and Loaves-n- Fishes. Coats for Christmas - Winter coats were distributed to needy resi- dents with assistance from Loaves- n-Fishes, Main Street, Seafood Mar- ket, and Hinton Kiwanis. Christmas Parade - Key Club entered a float in the 1990 Christ- mas Parade. Grade cards will be given to stu- dents in homeroom Fri. Mar. 8th. Hinton High School P.T.O. Meets The monthly Hinton High School PTO meeting was held on Men. Feb. 25, at 7:00 p.m. in the school cafete- ria. President Jerry Cooper called the meeting to order and minutes were read and approved. The treasurer reported that we had a total of 26 paid memberships. The balance in the treasury was $165.00 with the only bill being a charge for printed checks. Under Old Business, Mrs. Crow- der said that completed Homeroom Phone Network lists would be made available as soon as telephone numbers were added. She distrib- uted copies of teacher conference times. Discussion suggested that the Phone Bank "Network be used for school matters beyond the single purpose of the PTO. The Pre-Enrollment program was presented by Mrs. Crowder and Mr. Fitzsimmons, the guidance coun- selor. Mrs. Crowder distributed copies of Class Offerings for 1992 and the HHS Enrollment Form. She explained dates for pre-enrollment and.the changes in.the Social Stud- ies curriculum, Mr. Fitzsimmons talked about scheduling conferences, student plans beyond graduation, and ACT/SAT testing. He indicated that beginning at the 9th. grade students should become more seri- ous in considering college-prepatory courses. Then by their junior year, students need to consider vocational offerings. He emphasized selection of courses needs to be based on indi- vidual student needs and direction. The next scheduled meeting of the PTO will be on Mon. Mar. 25, at 7:00 p.m. Hinton High School Project Fair H.H.S. is planning its first multi- curricular Project Fair on Fri. Mar. 15. This will be a show of work done in a variety of classes. There will also be a concert by the H.H.S. Band, during the Fair. We would like to encourage ev- eryone to attend the project which will be open to students from 1:30 3:00 and to the public from 3:30 to 7:00. Hopefully, we will have a good turnout to see examples of the work being done in various classes at Hinton High School. Hunter Education Class To Be Offered The Dept. of Natural Resources will sponsor a Hunter Education Course Mar. 11, 12, 13 from 7 to 10:15 PM at the Summers Co. Ca- reer Center. Included in the training will be basic gun safety, information about firearms and ammunition, the role of the hunter and hunting in wildlife management and conservation, hunter responsibilities, game care and the wildlife laws. Persons successfully completing the 10 hour course Will i'eceive a Hunter Education Certification card from the W. Va. Dept. of Natural Resources. W. Va. law now requires persons who purchase their first huntinglicense after Jan. 1, 1990, to successfully complete the Hunter Education Course. Parents are encouraged to attend with their children.
