Dear Mr. Long,
I wish to take this opportunity to
thank the people of Hinton and
Summers County for their prayers
and support for the troops serving in
Operation Desert Storm. Most notea-
bly thanks for the candle light serv-
ice held in support of the troops.
Myself and thousands of others from
all over the country appreciate your
care and concern.
To the ungrateful few I offer this;
The freedom you use toxpress your
opinion is being defended by myself
and many others. If you don't like it
I understand there is plenty of hous-
ing available in Baghdad. With more
opening everyday. I woulnd't recom-
mend flying there though.
Thank you,
SGT. Matt C. Briers

Hinton High School P.T.O.
Meets
The monthly Hinton High School
PTO meeting was held on Men. Feb.
25, at 7:00 p.m. in the school cafete-
ria.
President Jerry Cooper called the
meeting to order and minutes were
read and approved. The treasurer
reported that we had a total of 26
paid memberships. The balance in
the treasury was $165.00 with the
only bill being a charge for printed
checks.
Under Old Business, Mrs. Crow-
der said that completed Homeroom
Phone Network lists would be made
available as soon as telephone
numbers were added. She distrib-
uted copies of teacher conference
times. Discussion suggested that the
Phone Bank "Network be used for
school matters beyond the single
purpose of the PTO.
The Pre-Enrollment program was
presented by Mrs. Crowder and Mr.
Fitzsimmons, the guidance coun-
selor. Mrs. Crowder distributed
copies of Class Offerings for 1992
and the HHS Enrollment Form. She
explained dates for pre-enrollment
and.the changes in.the Social Stud-
ies curriculum, Mr. Fitzsimmons
talked about scheduling conferences,
student plans beyond graduation,
and ACT/SAT testing. He indicated
that beginning at the 9th. grade
students should become more seri-
ous in considering college-prepatory
courses. Then by their junior year,
students need to consider vocational
offerings. He emphasized selection
of courses needs to be based on indi-
vidual student needs and direction.
The next scheduled meeting of
the PTO will be on Mon. Mar. 25, at
7:00 p.m.
