Summers Middle School, Hinton
Business and Professional Women's
Club, and the 411 Family Resource
Center will team up again this year
to sponsor a student mentoring
program. Last year mentors were
provided for 121 seventh grade
students as part of the School to
Work initiative. This year the
program will expand to sixth
graders if 210 community
participants can be recruited.
The program is designed to meet
two of the goals of the America's

career skills through effective
education and on-going
relationships with caring adults•
Sixth and seventh graders are
participating in business adventures
in their language arts classes. Good
grades and attendance earn them
revenue for their businesses. They
m
learn about topics such as I
productivity, mentoring, effective
|
marketing, the stock market, and
employee management.
Students and mentors will
correspond every two weeks by mail
March through May. The last day of
the program will be Friday, May 28
You!
when students and secret business
partners will be introduced. A
reception will be hosted for the
participants following the
introduction ceremony.
Interest letters will be mailed to
local businesses, clubs, churches,
schools and those expressing
interest from last year. Each
business partner will receive a letter
and profile of their student during
the first week of March. The
responses will be due back to
students by March 12. This pattern
will be followed through the last
three months of school to assure that
all students receive equal numbers
of correspondence.
If you are interested in becoming
a secret business partner and do not
receive a letter, please call 466-2226

March 5, 1957- SepL 8, 1996
On this special day, God gave me a special
son - Russefl Ray.
You were a thousand winds that blow, the
diamond glints in the snow.
You were the sunlight on ripened grain, the
gentle autumn's rain.
When I awaken in mornings hush, you were
the uplifting rush.
Of quiet birds in circle flight,
You were the soft stars that shine at night.
But God seen sit to take you away, For a short
time.
Always in my memory, thoughts end hearts.
