6 - Hinton News Tues. Feb. 25, 2003
Lot me preface my remarks with
the following statement: I am not
beholding to any local political
faction other then what my own
conscience dictates, nor do I write
the opinions of others or take orders
on what I write about from any other
individuals. To put it simply my
opinions and statements are my own
and I willingly sign my name to
them. They are not the opinions of
this or any other newspaper or
person.
The reason I mention this is that
the scuttlebutt has it that our
prosecutor has made remarks about
getting the Mayor to call her dogs
off. I assume that I must be one of
the dogs since I wrote the less then
flattering piece about our prosecutor
having the blinders on. First I
respond that the Mayor has no
advance knowledge of the substance
of any of my political commentary.
Second she has zero input on any of
its substance. This dog reference
might be some sort of paranoid
delusion on the part of our
prosecutor.
Perhaps the reason the
prosecutor feels that I am the
Mayors dog is because he has been
surrounded by the Anti-Mayors too
long and that is the way they seem
to operate. They pick targets,
conduct smears and the truth is
damned on many occasions. He
needs to spend more time with the
thinking electorate that supports
the Mayor and find out that truth
usually lies somewhere in between
on issues. If this is dog barking I
say WOOF.
I am told our prosecutor does not
read the Hinton News anyway.
Yeah-and the bears in the woods
• always use toilets. If he doesn't read
the Hinton News then the next time
he runs for office he should
campaign in the London mes. If
he read the local paper he might
know more about the historical
perspective on issues here.
Lets talk about the phone call"
that was placed to Fred Long the
Editor of the Hinton News after the
death of Phil Bagdon. It was
obviously from an Anti-Mayor since
Phil wrote some political
commentary that was unfavorable
to the Anti-Mayors.
The way I see it the call was a
threat. I have received a few threats
myself. On that night there were
calls to other individuals that could
be regarded by the paranoid as
mayoral dogs.
Our prosecutor said he wasn't
going to do anything about it. His
easoning was that it was a prank.
My interpretation is this. Its OK
to make death threats, engage in
tasteless, harassing ignorance on
the phone---as long as your phone
number may be in the Anti-Mayor
camp.
In the latest bizarre happenings
related to the identity of the owner
of the cell-phone number attributed
to the harassing call, a certain City
Police Officer allegedly refused to
give the Chief Law Enforcement
Officer (The Mayor) the name of the
person who the phone number is
registered to. His reasoning seems
to be that it is an ongoing
investigation. He claims that our
prosecutor backs him up on this.
This smells like the sewer plant
on a warm summer day.
Incidentally don't eat the ducks
around here I see them Swimming
in the sludge.
• I ask the following questions.
Why are they protecting the phone-
harasser that likes to issue death
threats instead of initiating a
prosecution? Why should the Chief
Law Enforcement Officer- the Mayor
be held out of the loop about the
identity of the owner of the cell
phone number? IfI were the mayor
I would bring the officer up on
charges for insubordination for
refusing an order.
So folks we have reached a new
standard here in Summers County.
If it is an Anti-Mayor death threat
it seems to be "Okay" with our
prosecutor.
This crosses the kind of civil line
that we expect our District
Attorneys to up-hold. I find Mr.
McNeely's behavior on this to be
despicable and contrary to the rule
of law in a civilized society. If I am
one of the barking dogs he wanted
called off then WOOF-WOOF -
WOOF.
I quote Mr. McNeely who said to
me "that if it walks like a duck,
quacks like a duck then it must be a
duck." This was said in reference to
a pending case on the court docket.
Let's extend the prosecutor's
logic. If Anti-Mayor's are exempt
from prosecutions, if Anti-Mayor's
can make telephone death threats,
telephone anonymous lying tips etc,
lie to the State Police, lie in court,
post derogatory signage about the
Mayor, engage in smears, etc and
our prosecutor looks the other way
he must be an Anti-Mayor. At least
he is quacking like one.
I hope he doesn't swim in the
sludge. Didn't we elect this guy
because we thought he was open
minded and he wouldn't be in the
pocket of any political special
interest? Poll the voters. I bet that's
part oftlm reason the incumbent lost
the election. It is often the reason
why an incumbent looses.
Our citizens should demand
objectivity from our prosecutor.
I said he might have the blinders
on in my last commentary. It could
be worse he may be blindsiding
justice in Summers County by
playing into the hands of the Anti-
Mayor Agenda.
By now it should not be a secret,
even though the Anti-Mayor's do
their level best to keep it quiet, that
there is a group who wants to bring
the Mayor down and grind her term
into the dirt while blaming it all on
her.
I have a suggestion for our
prosecutor. He better start reading
the Hinton News. In fact he should
go to the library and read some of
the old issues on microfilm that
prompted the electorate to oust the
old Mayor. He should become an
astute observer of the reasons why
this happened. He might not be so
quick to align himself by his actions
and more specifically by t.he choice
of his inaction on prosecutions.
He will have to face the electorate
again some day if he wants to
continue in office. In the meantime
I will continue to bark to my own
tune not the Mayor's or his. Do you
