in Summers County, and I say
the things this lady stated in her

lived at Hix 16 years, and have
had family living at Elk Knob
all of my life. I can never

Mr. Lowry took over at the state

storm that began Friday after-

When firemen arrived the
second story of the frame dwell-

threatened houses on both sides
of the Adkins residence. It took
.firefighters nearly an hour to
bring the flames under control,
and they remained on the scene
for a total of three hours.
Policemen controlling traffic

streets and alleys in a four-

be rerouted safely.
As of Monday morning no
cause for the fire had been
determined. The dwelling

Honorable Charles Miller
Road Commission of West Vir-
ginia
I am writing in regard to a
letter published in the Hinton
Daily News, Feb. 1, by Pat-
ricia O'Bryan which I am en-
closing. Now Mr. Miller, I don't
live in Kanawha County, I live
in Summers County, and I say
the things this lady stated in her
letter is every word a lie. I've
lived at Hix 16 years, and have
had family living at Elk Knob
all of my life. I can never
remember the road service
being any better than it is, since
Dean Lowry has been at the
State Road garage. In fact when
Mr. Lowry took over at the state
road garage in Summers
County, the roads up Taylors
.Ridge, Hix, and Hinton Mount-.
ain were so had you couldn't
even pass a car, without side
swiping your vehicle. Brush
was growing over the road, and

Fire dtroyed the residence of
the Lewis Adkins family at 712
Summers Street early Saturday
morning. The Hinton Fire Dep-
artment was called at 5:19 a.m.
and was advised by. the Hinton
Police Department to go down
Fourth Avenue and out
Summers Street because of the
exteremely hazardous road
conditions. A sheet of ice cov-
ered everything in the Summers.
County area as a result of a
storm that began Friday after-
noon.
When firemen arrived the
second story of the frame dwell-
ing was ablaze and the flames
threatened houses on both sides
of the Adkins residence. It took
.firefighters nearly an hour to
bring the flames under control,
and they remained on the scene
for a total of three hours.
Policemen controlling traffic
in the area summoned city
street crews to cinder the
streets and alleys in a four-
block area'so the vehicles could
be rerouted safely.
As of Monday morning no
cause for the fire had been
determined. The dwelling
belonged to H.F. Sweeny.
