NOTICE SOIL CONSERVATION DISTRICT MEETING The Southern Soil Conservation District will hold their regular monthly meeting on Feb. 11th. IN THE LIBRARY Big changes are in store at the Library this month. Tammie Lilly who has worked for the Literacy program since its inception in 1991, first as the assistant coordinator and more recently as coordinator, is leaving for a full time job in Beckley. We are sad to lose her. She has done an excellent job. During the time she has been here, she has been able to encourage, console and bully scores of people to seek help. Many of them are now the proud possessors of GED's, jobs, plans and futures. The Library calls its literacy program LAMP. It is safe to say that Tammie has been responsible for lighting a number of them during the time she was here. We are relieved to announce that Shalom Tazewell, who has been a volunteer tutor for LAMP for a number of years, will take over the job of coordinator. The literacy program at the Library is funded through a grant from the WV Dept. of Education. The Library will soon be reapplying for funds for 1999 - 2000. Along with a new literacy coordinator, we are getting a new computer system. We will soon be hooked up to computers in Monroe, Greenbrier, Pocahontas, Nicholas, Raleigh, Mercer, Wyoming and Fayette Counties. This will allow us to access the book collections in these libraries, share the services of a computer technician, rely on a central office to install new sol, ware and worry about problems (Y2K, for example), make it easier for us to share cataloging information, etc. This represents a BIG change. We do think we will like it - we think you will too but we ask that folks be patient with us until we are up and running and have learned how to work this new system. Finally, the Friends of the Library are planning a fund raising dinner for Feb. 19th. at 6:30 pm at the Presbyterian Church. Tickets are $12 each. The menu was inspired by the book Under the Tuscan Sun and includes Italian wedding soup, salad, lasagna or eggplant parmesan, Italian bread, mint sorbet, ice cream and beverages. There are a limited number of tickets available. Call the Library at 466-4490 to reserve yours. CARD OF THANKS Geneva Smith and Family would like to thank all who sent flowers, cards and contributed food during the loss of our loved one Lewis D. Smith. Special thanks to the second floor staff and ICU nurses, and Dr. Steve Richman. May God Bless All of You.
